Has anyone suffered with Globus? I've had it for the past 8 weeks and it's driving me mad.

I have work stress which is manageable- the Globus causes me much more stress!

I drink lots of water.
I rest.

I take anti acid incase it's from reflux
I take anti histamine incase it's from post nasal drip

I'm fed up!

Not heard of it before! Just googled it. Must be so annoying for you.. hope you feel better soon

Does stress make it flare up though? Would be worth looking up Dr Alan Gordon, Dr Howard Schubiner and the Curable app for tools like somatic tracking and ways to decrease your focus on the sensation. Really works. I had and still have a bit of this with nerve pain in my head/neck after a whiplash injury but these tools have drastically reduced the stress/anxiety/pain around the sensations.

Yes, stress makes it flare up apparently. But the feeling of being strangled the whole time is what is making me stressed to be fair. I went on holiday and fully relaxed and it went away for 4 days, it was bliss. Then it came back as soon as I got home.

It's brutal!.

Is this globus syndrome? If so, I had it last year, it lasted about 8 or 9 weeks. I thought I had cancer of the throat or something just as bad. It was terrifying, I couldn't swallow properly, could feel a huge lump in my throat. Could feel food stuck on my gullet.

I had a specialist appointment for about the 8th week of it, a few days before it started to lessen. The consultant put a camera up my nose and down my throat and said, 'it's fine, nothing there.' And by the end of the next week, it was gone.

I am perplexed that this was all in the mind, but that's what it sees to come down to. I can hardly think about it though, because I can feel my throat starting to swell at the mere thought. Like now in fact.

I hope your's goes away soon.

Thanks, maybe the reassurance made it better. I've had 3 horrible sore throats at the same time too which hasn't helped.

I’ve had it in the past, it’s very unpleasant. I think just knowing what it was (eventually) helped - like a previous poster, I worried about throat cancer. I found warm drinks were helpful, as was moving my gullet gently from side to side. Ultimately the best thing is to reduce your stress levels - easier said than done I know…

Have you had Covid recently by the way? Because apparently lots of people have reported neuropathic pain and mine (although pretty certain it was exacerbated/related to whiplash) was particularly bad after I caught Covid for the first time.

There was also a virus I caught last winter where I had bad teeth/nerve pain in my neck/face - there was a thread on here at the time with lots of others reporting the same. I don’t think that was Covid, it presented differently though I didn’t test.

I just wonder if it’s perhaps viral and will fade - fingers crossed anyway that it passes soon for you.

Take sips of water. Apparently this helps the throat to relax. Chewing gum is quite effective too.

MoiraRoseRules · 19/05/2023 18:01

I had this recently after a brutal sore throat and it was awful. Was also very stressed at that time. Once I realised what it was, I used skills and strategies around anxiety & panic, and it did go once I was really convinced it was related to that & I just needed to be calm & relax.

I do drink hot water (as opposed to tea) - that really helped too and I’m sure any herbal tea would be good.

I had this and was pointed at Chinese herbal medicine. It worked, have a look. Something significant for me was acknowledging there could be an emotional link.
