Any recommendations for Copenhagen?

I am currently in Copenhagen until Sunday evening - any recommendations?! Places to eat? I’m surprised quite a few of the restaurants don’t seem to open in evenings! Maybe just the ones I’ve been looking at.

Possibly museums tomorrow as I think quite a bit is closed for bank holiday tomorrow. I’d like maybe to do day trip to Malmo / Lund on Friday or Saturday.

Thanks!

https://www.tivoli.dk/ Tivoli Gardens are well worth a visit if you like rides. We took the train up the coast to Helsingor which took about an hour but was a lovely town with a castle ( https://www.kronborg.dk/ ) and you can see Sweden across the water. Obviously we also did The Little Mermaid and the nearby Windmill. We ate in Tivoli Gardens the first night and then at a restaurant in the meat packing district. Loved Copenhagen.

I live in Copenhagen so might be able to help.

Whereabouts are you staying or what areas do you plan to spend time in?

A quick suggestion for when the sun is out this weekend is Reffen. You have to get the water boat there but it’s a great street food hub with lots of choice, music and beach vibes. Very popular when the sun is out.

Also the Danish museum by Christianborg castle is very nice for tomorrow.

Alternatively you could go to Rosenborg castle in the morning and then follow the ‘changing of the guard’ parade from there to Amalienborg Castle. The parade starts at 11:30 and works its way through the town centre with the handover demonstration taking place around 12. From there you can have a look in Fredericks Church and then if the sun is out have a walk around Kastellet and see the Little Mermaid.
If you wanted you could get the boat from Nodre Todbold to Reffen but if you do want to go there it might be better when it’s a bit warmer over the weekend.

Boat trip around the harbour and a walking tour of Christiania

We loved the museum of Danish Resistance. Absolutely fab!
Amalie's for lunch (not sure if they do dinner) if you want traditional Danish food. We also really enjoyed Cofoco.

When I was there I found that many businesses close for the weekend after midday on Saturday. That includes the tourist office and the bike hire places. So bear that in mind when planning!

Thanks! We’re staying in Vesterbro. We generally do a lot of walking so we walked up to Reffen yesterday actually, it was great! Those are great suggestions too thank you.

I know that most shops are closed today with it being the bank holiday/Ascension Day - were just looking at whether museums and galleries are closed too, hope not.

do you have any recommendations for restaurants/cafes? Any not too expensive!

When I was last in Copenhagen we had a lot of problems getting a table reservation. My group rather randomly ended up in a Hare Krishna restaurant (well, it was really a take away that had a few tables, and was soo busy with the takeaway) that although there was a set menu of curry, dahl and rice (vegan and gluten free) it was so fresh and tasty we loved it. Very cheap as well - it was called Govinda

These are suggestions I sent my friend recently

Ah I’m so pleased you liked Reffen, we love it there.

Museums and galleries are open today, just the shops that tend to close.

I agree with the PP recommendations above, and second that if you like walking then Fredericksburg is a nice neighbourhood to walk around. There’s a huge park there too (next to the zoo) where you can rent a boat or just walk around.

Vesterbro isn’t far from the meat packing district. There’s a cool BBQ place there called Warpigs Brewery which I’d recommend, plus there’s other small eateries dotted around the same area. It has a vibe similar to Reffen but without the water.

Theres also a place called Hot Pot Republic in Vesterbro which I haven’t been to but I’ve heard is good.

If you’re closer towards the shopping areas then Paul Bogden Cafe is good for simple food for lunch. Super casual, relatively cheap and big portions. In that area I also like the Rice Market for Thai food and there’s a cool pizza place at the top of Illum.

if you do go to Christiansborg Palace today then Restaurant Tight, Zirup and Cocks and Cows are nice in that area. Restaurant Tight is also a nice place in the evening too.

And Tivoli is great and has a food festival on this week. Tomorrow might be quieter than today as the schools are open again tomorrow.

If you like art and history then I’d recommend the Carlsberg Glypotekt which is close to Tivoli. Just double check that it’s open today as it might be one of the museums that is closed as it’s slightly smaller but very very good

Danishlydaning · 22/05/2023 13:34

Had a fantastic time, sad to be home now but thank you so much everyone for your recommendations Smile
