Programmes/films to watch with DD9

Hi, just wondered if anyone had suggestions of films or programs we could enjoy together, don't need to be new. She's my youngest, I have boys, so we watch a lot of super hero and sci-fi, which she hates. She wants to watch programmes with me but I'm not sure what direction to go in. I wondered Gilmore girls but wasn't sure she would get it or if it's appropriate. She isn't a sensitive kid, she has older brothers so has probably seen her share of more grown up things but she wants "girly" programmes.

I don't know if I've ever been particularly "girly" so struggling for ideas.

My daughter of a similar age loves Death in Paradise on BBC and Locke and Key on Netflix

BadlydoneHelen · 17/05/2023 18:49

FionnulaTheCooler · 17/05/2023 18:50

We enjoyed The Babysitters Club and Wednesday, both on Netflix.

Yes to Wednesday too!

MeinKraft · 17/05/2023 20:12

Ghosts for sure! Although it's not particularly girly. But there are plenty of good female characters in it.

The Next Step on iPlayer is brilliantly entertaining for both kids and adults imo

kiwiandcherries · 17/05/2023 20:50

I wouldn't watch Wednesday with a 9yo! My 12yo found it pretty disturbing (& she's not a particularly sensitive child).

NotPennysBoat · 17/05/2023 21:07

My 9yo loves Bake Off, most David Attenborough documentaries, Matilda movie coming to Netflix soon is fantastic.

Newnamefor2021 · 17/05/2023 21:11

Thanks all, this is great. Going to suggest these to her. She's seen Wednesday but most of her class has and her brothers were watching it. I'd probably have avoided it if it was just her but equally she loved it. She likes scary things. So think it suited her really. I Would say it's not for every child but I equally have a near teen who was terrified of the Christmas carol for years. Each child is different I guess.

This show is lovely! Haven't watched the second series yet though

NerdyBird · 17/05/2023 21:37

Am currently watching old series of Bake Off with DD nearly 9. She also likes Baking Impossible, Is It Cake?, and rather inexplicably, Jamie's 30/15 Minute Meals.

Other recent watches that I can bear are Babysitter's Club, Pony Sitter's Club, several gymnastics-based series and movies and Miraculous.

reelcat · 17/05/2023 21:50

@moderationincludingmoderation it depends on the child. She was desperate to watch as some of her friends were so we said we would trial and see. She loved it and wasn't disturbed at all whereas some of her friends decided pretty quickly it wasn't for them. I think she is like me and as long as it's not 'realistic' She is fine!
