Washing line spiders!

Ok, so I have a rotary washing line (I call it a whirligig) and I swear the whole thing is attracting spiders and webs. I hate hanging my washing on it and the thought of little bugs on them gives me the heave.

Does anyone have any wonderful methods/tips for keeping them at bay?

I always think of spider willys when I hang my washing up.

I used to squeal and jump when they come running out of the pegs (that I leave on the line) but somehow they don't bother me anymore. No idea why.

I bought a new one last year with a cover and it still got covered in spiders. I'm not necessarily scared of them, but really don't want them in my underwear or inside my clothes.
My only solution is to tumble dry the clothes for about 20 mins when i bring them in. I also do this to try to reduce pollen due to hayfever.

It's all such a pain that I tend to not hang outside at all and simply use my heat pump dryer. It's really efficient so costs very little to run and often zero on a sunny day, as I have solar panels too.

Yes yes yes to a cover, as long as you fold the line and cover it every time. It keeps it clean and mostly bug-free.

@YellowAndGreenToBeSeen I came here just for mentions of spider willys. You didn't disappoint.

Same here.

The mention of spiders rubbing thier little willys on washing always brings a smile to my face. 😁

I love MN humour.

Once I knew we had beasties that live in our face, come out at night to have sex on it and explode because they can't take a shit. Line spiders just didnt bother me anymore

They live in the pegs. Take those off maybe.

Actually is that not a bit lazy and scummy leaving your pegs on the line ? If you were my neighbour I would judge you .😁

Little bugs are the least of your worries. According to MN. You have bigger concerns, such as spiders rubbing their willies on your washing!

On a serious note, I find peppermint oil in a spray bottle can be a useful deterrent for spiders indoors. Maybe it could work outdoors?

It probably is, luckily my neighbours have bigger things to judge on our street, I am practically Hyacinth Bouquet compared to some of them!
