Would your 18 year old think to text people thank you

My Dd recently had her 18th and she got lots of cards with money in given to her and send to her. Really lovely.

I expected her to be texting people herself to say thank you (I don't even know everything she was sent as I am out when the post comes).

i've just had a text from an Aunt to ask if the card and money she sent arrived safely. When I have questioned her about it, there's a couple of other people, she hasn't texted to say thank you. When she was younger, I have obviously been the one to send texts to say thank you but at 18 surely she should be doing this herself.

Yes unfortunately I have had to remind my lot about texting or calling to say thank you occasionally in the past . It’s basic manners so I have been embarrassed and annoyed with them !

I sent my nephew (19) £50 for Christmas. No thanks whatsoever, either by text or in person. Guess what he's getting THIS Christmas?

I think this is dying out, just isn’t something lots of people prioritise in a world full of distractions. Often I think they’d prefer not to have the gift at all (especially if it’s not money) if it means this ‘pressure’.

What's dying out? Saying thank you? Confused

I don't know any teen who would rather have nothing. "Hi Aunty, thanks so much for the cash! Will save it for my shopping trip/iphone/nandos". Hardly anxiety inducing, it is?

What WAS anxiety inducing was being made to phone up distant relative to say thank you in person and making awkward conversation as a kid. A text is nothing, there's no excuse.
