Does anyone know how I can get help tonight?

My friend has just had surgery on her stomach.

She hasn't had a poo for 6 days and is now so bunged up she's REALLY uncomfortable and she's feeling really low. She's a single mum to an ASD DC and doesn't have anyone to help.

Her painkillers are at the hospital which she cant get to. Glycerin suppositories would be really helpful but she can't get anywhere to get them.

Is there anywhere that can help her right now? With getting the suppositories and actually getting them?

I live over an hour away and dont drive, i had 2 disabled kids so getting the train there at this time of night is impossible.

Any advice would be really gratefully received. Thanks

Contact 111

Dontbelieveaword · 16/05/2023 21:22

111

Opplesandbononos · 16/05/2023 21:23

Will 111 be able to get suppositories to her though? Even if she got a prescription she has no way of picking them up.

Who looked after her DS while she had surgery? Presumably they are closer than you, can they get the medication for her?

Opplesandbononos · 16/05/2023 21:24

No they cant. They are now further away than i am.

Some online pharmacies do delivery within 60-90 minutes, could she have a look in her area?

Kam610 · 16/05/2023 21:24

I'm sure I've heard of people ordering an Uber to pick up things for them. Could she do that?

Hellocatshome · 16/05/2023 21:25

In that case I would tell her to call 111 and explain the situation they must have come across similar before.

LynetteScavo · 16/05/2023 21:27

If she has Amazon Prime she could order them and they'd arrive tomorrow.

Opplesandbononos · 16/05/2023 21:27

@Anyoldfuckingusername do you know what pharmacies do it or what to search for?

Local FB group or what’s that local website thing called? We had something set up in our area during COVID (lots of older people) and folks would collect shopping and prescriptions and the same was extended to anyone isolating or new mums etc. My experience is neighbours are often very willing to help. I’m friendly but not BFFs but if my neighbour asked me I’d be v happy to help, it’s just often people like your friend might be too scared to ask which is a shame.

When I had surgery and got bunged up it helped to not focus on it. Also having feet a few inches off floor when on toilet helped.

Dontbelieveaword · 16/05/2023 21:30

111 would have all the information you need about local pharmacies who might deliver. We don't know because we don't know where she is. But as PP says, some taxi firms might pick up for her

DustyLee123 · 16/05/2023 21:31

Has she tried a coffee to get things moving ?
Can she do a home delivery now for tomorrow ? Order some tinned prunes and take 6-8 a day to get moving.

Fast deliveries from pharmacies tends to be in London - supermarket pharmacies work be open the same hours as the supermarket, so she could get an Uber to pick up what she needs. I'm wondering why she didn't do that while her child was in school today. Does she really have absolutely no local support? Why didn't the hospital send her home with pain killers and laxatives? Shock

Opplesandbononos · 16/05/2023 21:51

Yep shes tried everything. She's bunged up from the bottom end.

She's not in London. She's worried 111 will send her back to hospital.

The pain meds are at the hospital pharmacy. And they didnt send her with laxatives. I got her some dulcolax in a shop i did her today but she really needs suppositories to get the "plug" out. Its got worse this evening.

Pain meds aren’t advised really as they will exacerbate the problem , paracetamol is ok

Gymnopedie · 16/05/2023 23:19

Then what she needs to do, preferably in the privacy of her own bathroom and wearing disposable gloves, is stick her finger up there and gently dig and scoop.

It's what the hospital did when MIL was in the same state, but she could do it herself (as long as she hasn't got talon length nails).

Tighginn · 16/05/2023 23:32

Dulcolax, Amazon prime, will be delivered by 1pm tomorrow.

Unfortunately this is what she needs to do. Just put Vaseline on the gloves finger. It works surprisingly well. Unless she’s obviously had an surgery or will rip stitches getting into position say on the toilet

Nah, our next day prime usually arrive 5/6pm when ever you order it.

neilyoungismyhero · 17/05/2023 01:10

Lactulose is also brilliant..I broke my back and ended up on pain killers for 4 days in hospital not much food and hadn't been 2 days prior to the accident..all in all 8 days..lactulose did he trick for me.
