What do you do to fill time.

My husband and I have recently split up and I'm struggling to find things to do to fill time. I'm still going to the gym and I'm planning to go back into a sport I was heavily in to in my teens and twenties. But I will still have evenings in the house, I can watch TV but that's when we'd chat, so I'm looking to pick up something which I can do at the same time as watching TV. I really need something pretty mindless to stop my brain wandering in to angry or lonely thoughts?

Out with friends? Join a social group

Find a hobbie. Maybe a craft? Find some good books.

I remember this when my exp left. Sunday's were the worst. You soon get used it though and then start to enjoy the time x

I know you didn’t ask for TV recommendations, but when I was first separated I started watching soaps again- I hadn’t watched Eastenders or Coronation St for years but somehow the familiarity and predictability was very soothing! I also re-watched The Good Wife from the start, it’s a great one for that life after divorce feeling!

I also did a lot of reading- mainly easy to read pacy thrillers that hooked me in.

Good luck and take care 💐

I still do lots of things, sports, housework, work etc. my dc are older. It's stuff to do instead of scrolling through Facebook while the telly is on. Stuff to fill my mind in the downtime, which there will inevitably be.

Learn piano, go to theatre, bake bread so you get bread without the additives, have a pamper evening at least once a week so you look fabulous, jigsaws, knit, online yoga, invite friends over, find local events, wine tasting, go to the cinema once a month mid-week cheaper can watch what you want, online chess. Do an online course on something you just fancy learning about.

Plan holidays.
Explore local area/history.
Offer to dog walk friends dog once in a while many will jump at a chance of an evening off.
Go to local pub with a paper or book

If it's when you're watching TV that your mind wanders to difficult feelings, I'd suggest giving up TV for a while and doing other things like evening walks or crafts or something you can do whlie listening to the radio or a podcast. I realised watching TV was when I ate mindlessly so I just stopped watching TV! Feel much better, TV just doesn't grab me enough, that's why I would nibble

I think you've hit the nail on the head, I can't bear the thoughts sneaking in. I need to go to bed relaxed, not all worked up.

Thank you.

Join a choir, that's often an easy way to make new friends.

I hope all goes well for you. Thanks

Crochet or knitting? Can do a class to learn, or go to a knit and matter. Easy to do at home in the evenings too or sometimes I sit in a cafe, it’s a good conversation starter!
