Ever dyed your hair an unnatural colour?

I want to go blue but I’m not sure I have the guts

Just to echo what others have said, I have had my hair every colour of the rainbow and would NEVER dye it blue again, went to a horrible green and it didn’t matter what I put over it (including 3 jet black dyes), in the light you could still see the green 🤢

Although currently purple all over, I've had both turquoise and dark blue streaks and have never had the blue-fading-to green problem. My natural hair colour is basically grey with a copper/ brown dye on top and then the blue colouring on top of this. I get my hair done at the hairdressers - don't know if the type of hair dye they use is substantially different to that available to us mortals but could that be the reason people have had the blue-fading-to-green ?

This is my ladt 24 months of hair colour. I am currently the burgundy colour which I used to cover the green left by the blue.

I dyed my hair candyfloss pink during lockdown and I loved it! Don't even like Pink much. I may do it when I'm blonde again.

Phos · 16/05/2023 09:47

I have blonde hair with fuchsia, blue, teal and purple underlights.

Soubriquet · 16/05/2023 09:48

Yep

I’ve been red, purple and blue. Next one for me is pink I think

DeadButDelicious · 16/05/2023 09:50

I've had mine pink, purple, black and white (my personal favourite but the upkeep was ridiculous) various shades of red and always quite fancied green but never did it, not sure why. I haven't done blue because it is so hard to get rid of. Life's too short for boring hair, I say go for it OP!

OfTheNight · 16/05/2023 10:08

I’ve been all the colours of the rainbow. I quite liked blue, I just used the fade to transition to a teal, then to a Forrest green ready for Christmas. I love Aussie 3 min miracle because I have to bleach my hair before I colour. 3 min miracle keeps it in pretty good kick considering my years of hair mistreatment.

MissCherryCakeyBun · 16/05/2023 10:34

Life is to short to live boringly. I've had pink hair for going on 5 years I'm 55 this august.
I do agree that blue can be a real pain for fading to a grim grey green and bleaching it out first to almost white will help.... however the regrowth starts to show in 3 weeks and by 6-8 weeks is very noticeable. So keep that in mind

I did a search and this came up for me.

I have an appointment booked for a balayage for a vivid yellow. I don't want my whole hair done in a vivid colour and I want to keep some of my natural hair. I don't want any harsh growth lines either. It's something that I something that I really want to do. I am absolutely brinking it now. I am so nervous.

I am now leaning in more towards an under colour and it should be easier to grow out and it might be more subtle.

I am reading online and I have fine hair and there's different opinions on fine hair bleach. Some people saying it's ok and others saying a hard no.

@Palmsun, people who click on this thread are likely to either reply to the opening post or to see that it’s from 2023 & ignore it. If I were you I’d start a new thread in Style & Beauty.

currently purple & turquoise - I'm 62. people have done double takes on my hair colour
have been bright blue, bright green and red.

My natural hair colour is white

NeverDropYourMooncup · 30/03/2024 15:28

I had blue - it looked great.

However, when I then went on to want an employment appropriate colour, my hairdresser did a test strand on what looked like perfectly normal hair and it melted, because blue colours/pigment contain metallic elements that react with standard chemicals to produce heat. So short of cutting it all off into a crop, you're then stuck with growing out and cutting off for a couple of years.

ThemysteriousH · 30/03/2024 23:00

I went a bit wild and currently have a spilt dye of pink and purple 🙈

I’ve come to realise life is too short. I may look silly to others but I wanted to try it. My DC thinks it makes me “cool” too 🤣
