Anyone about - have just fallen in bathroom and feeling a bit fragile

Realise no one here can help practically. Trying to sort stuff in bathroom and either fainted or fell down. Didn’t lose any time I don’t think, remember exactly what happened. No obvious injuries just a bit sore - crashed onto plastic storage unit which has snapped. Been started on new beta blockers and dose was increased on Saturday so I think that’s what’s wrong - also has a coil put in a month ago and been bleeding heavily since - bit lightheaded and dizzy.

Dunno if I should ring GP and say, I’ve fallen, is it worth ringing them?

I think I’d just sit quietly for a bit and see how you feel. If you feel up to it maybe make a hot drink.

It can be scary and you can feel shocked for a while after any fall. Especially if you don’t know if it was a fall or a faint.

Sprig1 · 15/05/2023 13:32

Do you have a friend or neighbour who you can let know and ask them to check in on you later to make sure you are ok?

shivawn · 15/05/2023 13:34

Do you have a blood pressure monitor in the house that you could use to check your blood pressure? Try and drink a big glass of water if you can, fluids will help bring up your blood pressure if it's low from the higher dose of beta blockers. Hope you're feeling a bit better now x

Yes I would call the GP because it may be connected to the medication change and they may want to check your blood pressure and review the dose.

A cup of tea with sugar in may make you feel better if that's something you are allowed and can face making it.

feelsostupid234 · 15/05/2023 13:35

I don’t, no (friend or neighbour). I’ve got a support worker (mental health) so I’ve rang her office to see if she could contact me. I’ve managed to sit up but not managed to get myself standing yet. I feel bloody stupid, I’m only 32.

Yes agree sit down with a hot drink and see how you feel in a short while. Once, one of my boys polished the wood floor and I slipped while holding the baby. I was as bruised as anything so went to minor injuries but it was more to check baby as I feel on him! You poor thing

Cazelet · 15/05/2023 13:35

Definitely sit quietly for an hour or so, make a cup of tea if you can. Probably a bit shocked.

forrestgreen · 15/05/2023 13:35

Text a friend who can check on you every 1/4hr etc
I would ring the gp tbh

BringMeTea · 15/05/2023 13:37

Oh you poor thing. Take it very easy... hope you feel better soon. Flowers

When you were sorting, were you reaching up? I often feel like I'm going to pass out when I do that. Normally I wouldn't ring the gp over something like this but as you've changed your medication dose and this hasn't happened before, I'd definitely let the gp surgery know what's happened just in case it's related to the changed dosage. It's something for them to beaware of and keep an eye on.

endofthelinefinally · 15/05/2023 13:41

Yes, do let your GP and your nurse know what happened. It may be that your dose is a bit too high and needs checking.
Do you check your own BP at home?
If so, you need to start checking it regularly and keeping a chart.
Also, drink plenty of fluid and always stand up slowly, don't climb up anywhere until you get this checked out.

I was yeah, was reaching up to clean the shower.

Its bisoprolol I’m on, but already on two other meds that also cause a sedating effect so I’m wondering if it’s just for the first few days while I get used to the new dose maybe. Dunno.

I haven’t got a BP monitor no, should maybe buy one. I’ve had episodes of low BP before, had a 24 hour monitor a few years ago and always get asked in hospital if I’m feeling OK when they check BP, so it must get low at times.

skyeisthelimit · 15/05/2023 13:44

I would keep an eye on your BP , the doctors will need that to see if the tablets are causing an issue. You can get monitors quite cheap online

Madcats · 15/05/2023 13:52

While you are still a bit shaky please DON'T try to make yourself a hot drink.

My DM passed out making a cup of tea some years ago and had horrid burns from collapsing whilst holding the kettle.

PollyPeptide · 15/05/2023 13:54

It's that reaching up that does it. It happens to a lot of people. I have never read any book that was on the top shelf in the library. Lol. I verge towards low blood pressure too.
I never worry about it because its always happened to me. But if this is new for you, it's worth mentioning. I sure they'll say to give it a couple of weeks while your body adjusts to the new dosage.
Hope you feel better soon.

Oh maybe the beta blockers as you said I hope your OK now .

redbrow · 15/05/2023 14:06

Try to get yourself into a safe and comfortable place where you can rest for an hour or so.
After that you should make a note of when and what happened so if it does again you can remember this occasion.

chatelai · 15/05/2023 14:09

Beta blockers did that to me too. I think that they lower your blood pressure a bit too well! Also if you've been bleeding, may be as well to talk to practice nurse, get phone back from doctor or similar in case you need iron.

Horrible having an accident alone! Imagine we've sat you down and made you a cuppa.!

Mrsjayy · 15/05/2023 14:11

Yes I fainted on Beta blockers I think its probably the exertion.

Mrsjayy · 15/05/2023 14:12

And lower blood pressure .

Monkeymonkeymoo · 15/05/2023 14:18

Beta blockers can lower your blood pressure and make you dizzy/faint (you might also be a bit anaemic if the coil has been causing you to bleed more than normal).
If you’re not injured (ie. didn’t hit your head, no obvious injuries) then I’d recommend having a sit down with a really big glass of water/squash and a snack and seeing how you feel in half an hour. As someone above mentioned I wouldn’t have a hot drink until you’re feeling better in case you faint again and get burnt.

You probably need a medication review with the GP in the next few days if you’re having side effects from a new medication (or at least a phone discussion).

It might be worth also getting a blood pressure monitor so you can check if your blood pressure is low (you can often get them fairly cheaply in pharmacies/big supermarkets/Amazon).

I had similar side effects when I was on beta blockers (especially because my blood pressure was the lower end of normal to start with). I’m also a nurse and it’s something I see fairly frequently when people start on medications like beta blockers.

pontipinemum · 15/05/2023 14:30

I hope you are feeling a bit better now

uncomfortablydumb53 · 15/05/2023 17:11

Oh I'm sorry. Makes you feel vulnerable doesn't it?
It's likely to be the bp meds lowering plus reaching up will make it worse
Have a glass of water and rest up and don't bend down
Heavy bleeding can make you anaemic and dizzy too so I think it's worth letting GP know
I hope you feel better later

Atishoos · 15/05/2023 17:18

I'm taking bisoprolol also (for irregular heart beat - Afib). It can dramatically reduce the heart rate which can cause issues like this. At the same time, depending on the dose it can reduce BP also, so the two combined can lead to dizzyness and falling/fainting.

I had a similar thing happen (but it may not be the same cause as yours), and the meds were adjusted. I still have low HR but it doesn't cause any issues now touch wood.

I think I'd get a GP check up. In the meantime I hope you can get yourself up and sorted.
