Going insane with tiredness and insomnia

im currently exhausted all the time I have a chronic condition that can cause tiredness as a symptom but it shouldn’t be this bad. I’m only 30 I can’t work because of it on a bad day I wake up exhausted after 10 hours of good sleep. I’m normally very good at sleeping i fall asleep pretty quickly have 10
hours of sleep and a good afternoon nap. I’ve tried everything for my exhaustion I have b 12 injection take vitamin d tablets get 10 hours of sleep do gentle exercises when I can. Recently though I’ve been getting patches of insomnia where I can’t sleep at all but I’m exhausted. I haven’t slept for the past 2-3 nights. I’ve been awake all night I once had my fit bit track me as awake all night when I’ve had this before. I’ve closed my eyes for what seems like for ever but nothing I even took some nytol last night but it didn’t do anything. I’ve tried not napping either during the day when I’m going through insomnia but it didn’t help. I’ve just cried and had a mini breakdown as I’m so over tired I can’t do another day with any of this my life is in ruins. Doctors have done blood tests but there’s nothing else wrong I’m no longer vitamin d deficient etc and take loads of regular vitamins and have the b12 injection.

What 30 year old goes to try on her wedding dress but dosnt Even enjoy it as she wanted to fall asleep. I made it to a meeting last week with my partner and with in ten minutes of him leaving me in the car to grab a sandwich from tescos I was asleep. I then got home and straight into bed I slept from 1-5 in the afternoon after 10 hours of sleep the night before. I then went to bed at 10 exhausted.

Occasionally I’ll have a good day and be able to do something but I’ll pay for it the next day with extra exhaustion

I’m sure this is probably too basic a question but are you sure you aren’t oversleeping ? 10 hours plus naps is a huge amount in 24 hours and I guess what sticks out is that it doesn’t seem to make you feel better or energised at all so if you are exhausted with 13 hours sleep or more in 24 hours does less actually make a difference? Do you do any cardio ?

Sounds like you're oversleeping 10 + hours isn't good for anyone. That's messed up your sleeping pattern.

You need to cut all the naps, and reset your body clock.

I’ve tried sleeping less and not napping but I physically can’t I was falling asleep at work and on a night out I would be ready for bed by 9 and having to force myself to keep my eyes open. I don’t always sleep 10 hours but it’s normally what happens

that's your problem though, you're sleeping backwards through the day so when night time comes you're not tired. You have to force yourself unfortunately.

Sleepyweepy · 14/05/2023 13:49

Normally I only sleep for an hour during the day max

Its the height of tree pollen season plus people are mowing their lawns. Try taking an antihistamine at bedtime and see if that helps with your eyes.

Its awful having hayfever with chronic conditions as its difficult to work out what is causing the symptoms. This is the easiest way right now. Some antihistamines can also help with sleeping as only some are non drowsy 😉

slept very well last night was exhausted as usual by 12 but I saw a friend so I wouldn’t fall asleep. We went for a walk and watched a bit of tv I nearly did fall asleep but had a can of coke to try and perk me up. Off to have a bath and Early night. So glad this patch of insomnia has gone it will probably be back but it’s gone for now.

promethazine works for me and you can buy it over the counter. It's for travel sickness but makes you very drowsy, I sleep like a baby. However, you may still feel drowsy the next day.
