How involved are you in your child's revision??

Inspired by another thread - how hands on are you with your GCSE child's revision? Do you know the different elements of the curriculum they are doing? Do you help them find resources, find them for them or let them get on with it? Do you sit with them while they are revising and test them?

DS has his next year so for his class exams now I pretty much let him get on with it! He'll talks to me e about what he's doing and ask if it sounds like a reasonable revision schedule but apart from that I let him get in with it!

I appreciate every child is different but was left wondering if I was neglecting him.

Let mine get on with it. If they were struggling I'd offer to help & be more proactive but so far managed their time effectively.

I help when asked. Might be a bit more involved next year when DS is in year 11

Yes I was thinking might be more involved next year. Even helping them plan for multiple papers.

Nope, I do very little. They may ask me stuff which is mathmatical or scientific (this is my job so have good knowledge). I suppose I also encourage them to find a good video on you tube and check their work with chatgpt...

I'm not in fact I'm very laid back with it all and not pressured him at all,he's not academic anyway but he's been seriously ill,his year and was in intensive care,so.I'm just glad he has an opportunity to.sit his exams ,what will be will be.

He's in year 11 so exams start Monday .

Same as others, pretty hands off. I have written the A level exams dates and times in my diary just in case they get mixed up with that but eldest DS does get extra time in exams and is a bit scatty.

Orangesandlemons77 · 13/05/2023 13:10

I did pay for a Seneca exam revision thing but that was because they asked for it seems to be helpful for the A levels

Mine's y10 and has just done a full week of mocks.
I mostly leave him to get on with it, offer help or a listening ear if he wants. Sometimes he'll ask me to pick flashcards and ask him about it, other times he'll rant about how boring biology revision is etc.

I have a school app and can see what he needs to do, so encourage him to spend time here or there on it.

I also enforced a no revising weekend last weekend as he was stressing himself already the week before (he's crazily self driven) and recharge his batteries before the week started.

He's had decent down-time at the end of each day and has survived. 😁

I remind him to get on with and leave it at that
