Husband has postnatal drip and it's disrupting his sleep ( and mine for that matter🤬) what would be the best thing for me to give him

Whichever you go for, buy an unbranded cheaper version, often supermarket ones can be the cheapest. They will have the same active ingredients.

Different ones work better or worse for different people, so he might need to try different ones if what you initially choose doesn't seem to be having an effect. I personally take loratadine which works best for me, having tried others in the past. It is one of the non-drowsy ones.

For me - chlorphenamine however it makes me really drowsy so have to take it carefully. What about a steroid nasal spray and a chlorphenamine at night?

ComputerInitiateJump · 13/05/2023 11:09

I use generic cetirizine and loratadine tablets for hayfever that I get in bulk from amazon very cheaply. I find that alternating them daily works best for me. On bad days I take one of each. Some people get on with one or the other. Get your dh to take one a couple of hours before bed.

Steroid nasal spray for post nasal drip I would think. Ask the pharmacist, that's what they are there for.

Oldraver · 13/05/2023 11:21

I think anti-histimines are very personal, I can't take Cetirizene or the Chlor-maleate (sorry can't spell it)

I usually take 2 Loratidene on GP's advice, but but in bulk from Amazon. Beconase is good for nasal drip though

Giselletheunicorn · 13/05/2023 11:24

I prefer Loretadine as anything else makes me feel groggy...

gogohmm · 13/05/2023 11:27

I get mine from Lidl, same ingredients as branded ones, I have the "may cause drowsiness" ones if I need them for nighttime

Itsanotherhreatday · 13/05/2023 11:39

cetirizine these are about 60p so worth a go

longtompot · 13/05/2023 11:53

Antihistamines didn't help me with my post nasal drip, I had to use a steroid nasal spray which you can buy over the counter. It made a huge difference as I had a cough for a very long time and was getting worried it might be something serious, but it's just the drip that was causing it. I did see my gp before going down this route, and they suggested it.

A salt nasal spray before bed then again in the morning, followed by a beclomethasone nasal spray and take guiafenesin cough syrup which will then the mucous and help it drain more easily.

A good antihistamine is Fexofenadine.

BirdChirp · 13/05/2023 14:37

Loratadine doesn't work for me, cetirizene makes me depressed. Fexofenadine has been good, along with the beconase nasal spray.

Barold · 13/05/2023 15:11

Fexofenadine works best for me. Nothing over the counter works for me but I know they work for others so I guess it just depends on the person.

riotlady · 13/05/2023 15:11

I do loratdine in the morning, ceterezine at night and beconase nasal spray both times when mines really bad

Should say, you can get the lower-dose fexofenadine OTC now. It’s called Allevia, I think. I need 2 x prescription strength though so would need to take 2 or 3 to see any effect.
