Jamie Oliver fan of his recipes? Yes or No?

I’ve borrowed a few of his books over the years from the library, watched a few of his cooking shows, watched him on MasterChef Australia, now I just use his recipes from his website. Nearly all have been really good and food we all love.

Today I’m trying one of his meatloaf recipes. Looking forward to dinner!

How about you? Yay or Nay to JO?

I like his recipes. I think some of the snappy titles (under 30 minutes, only 5 ingredients etc.) are slightly misleading but other than that, everything I have made has been great.

WeAreTheHeroes · 10/05/2023 04:32

I agree. I am wondering why you are asking though. If you like them why do you care what others think?

Yellowdays · 10/05/2023 04:37

Yes

@Theoldwoman what did you think of the meatloaf? Which recipe was it?

Strugglingtodomybest · 09/06/2024 08:06

I've liked all the ones I've tried. Not many to be honest, as I'm not that keen a cook.

Plump82 · 09/06/2024 08:08

I can't stand him and from what I've seen it his recipes it's nothing ground breaking.

GordonRamsey · 09/06/2024 08:17

Well, you don't think I make mine up myself do you!!! 🤪

FOHM · 09/06/2024 08:20

Uncle Roger doesn't think too highly of him 🤣

Passiflora2 · 09/06/2024 08:21

I’m a big fan. I also love watching him cook, he always inspires me.

Gorgonemilezola · 09/06/2024 08:22

Yes, although don't like the format of the 30 minute meals one.

AlltheFs · 09/06/2024 08:23

He irritates me but the recipes are generally great. So I can’t watch him much but like the food.

4 year old DD loves his programmes though.

MissyB1 · 09/06/2024 08:23

We use quite a few of his recipes. Most work fine, some are overly fussy. I sometimes tweak them to suit us better. I'm using his veggie chilli recipe tomorrow.

DilemmaDelilah · 09/06/2024 08:24

No. Roast potatoes don't need rosemary on them. Nuff said.

BitOutOfPractice · 09/06/2024 08:24

is that you Jools?

@Gorgonemilezola i agree about the 30 minute meal format. It’s annoying if you’re not making all the courses or components. You have to skip around to find the next stage of what you are making.

other than that I’ve always found his recipes good. Though not as good as the hairy bikers.

pictoosh · 09/06/2024 08:25

Overall, yes.

stayathomer · 09/06/2024 08:25

Yes, although some books were hit and Miss for me and I always come back to the ministry of food being the best. (But I am not a good cook so not the best to go by!!)

greengreyblue · 09/06/2024 08:26

Yes I’ve made lots of his recipes. His Yorkshire puds are good. Also quick chicken pie. Think I have two books and watch his shows.

mrgrimblesgerbil · 09/06/2024 08:27

They work but are generally quite dull.

JustBeach · 09/06/2024 08:37

I regularly make his BBQ beans. Veggie chilli and use his Yorkshire pudding recipie. I like his recipes, they always seem to turn out well which is not a given with my cooking skills

In what way? (interested, not sarky - I've always founds his recipes simple but not dull - someone once gave me one of the Two Fat Ladies cookbooks and I never made a thing because of the fiddle faddling, OK if you can spend the whole day preparing supper, not so much h if you have an hour, tops, after a busy day. Or maybe they just thought Gorgon's a fat lady, she'll probably appreciate this.....)

greengreyblue · 09/06/2024 09:11

Hardly dull! He makes all sorts.

BagFullOfNoodles · 09/06/2024 09:15

He always uses too much lemon, if it's a recipe of his with lemon in it, halve the lemon.
His kedgeree recipe is a staple for us and his fish pie where you just sweat leeks and carrots add raw fish/prawns and cream/creme fraiche top with mash and bake, you can also include hard boiled eggs which DS loves, I don't use the spinach as I found it made it watery. It just keeps the fish tender, lots of recipes you poach the fish first
I don't tend to use a lot of recipes or adapt them to suit but I had one of his early books when I was a student

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 09/06/2024 09:16

Yes definitely.

needhelpwiththisplease · 09/06/2024 09:17

I use the core recipes and then tweak them to fit my needs

Jamie < Nigella < Ottolenghi
