Seasalt Pottering Gown in Blue Flowing Seaweed that ruins light colours

I have one of the new Pottering Gowns, my 9th so far and have never had dye transfer problems before. All my light colours have gone a grubby blue. I have washed it, and washed it, and washed it but am afraid to wear it with anything light.

Anyone else have one of these and the same problem?

If so, have you fixed it, and please tell me how?

If you are thinking of getting one, all I can say is, don't!

I had one of their Larissa shirts with a blue pattern and it never stopped colouring my white bras. I loved the shirt but always wore it with dark coloured underwear.

I think they used indigo dye for blue colour ways and it's a bugger for staining.

This shows what the problem might be:
Dye Bleeding You Cannot Control If the color loss happens due to the following reasons, it is beyond your control:

  • Incorrect dyeing techniques or poor quality dye were used during manufacturingThe incorrect dye was used for the type of fabric (not all dyes work on all kinds of fabrics)The dye was not properly rinsed out leaving an excess of unattached dye in the fabricThe manufacturer did not use a fixative or mordant to bind the dye to the fabric

if it’s a dye fault then it’s not fit for purpose and you could return for a refund.

I looked online at a couple of sites and apparently soaking in salt water or vinegar won’t stop dye bleed.

Salt in the wash. Every wash.

I have tried salt, not sure I want to mess about with every wash just because they don't set the dye.

They won't accept a return as it wasn't bought by me, the buyer has to do it. Even though it is faulty.

On that basis I won't be buying anything else from Seasalt although I only ever bought Pottering Gowns , a revolting plastic bottle jacket that makes me clammy and I detest, and a pair of sandals, I don't like the clothing, apart from a dress soetimes but I don't want the waistline just below my chest and the dresses are all the same so never bother.

They only print good reviews on the site too so peope have no way of knowing their lovely white thigs will be stained with blue dye.

@Toomanylatenightprogs I read The Spruce before contacting Sesalt, I read a lot of stuff before contacting them, in case I could fix it. Thank you for posting it though.

@TonTonMacoute Yes, it's a bugger, I am not going to buy new black nighwear just to wear under it though, it's more likely to go in the rags at the charity shop, it's all it is fit for.

@FANCHEA I read that, and nope it won't work for me, thank you anyway.

It's not like it's a cheap, thin, crappy thing, I know it's not Yves Delorme or Kenzo (they used to sell great ones) but it took me ages to find an acceptable cotton robe and now I have to start looking again because I no longer have faith in them. I don't even like the design that much, which makes it worse. In case it's not obvious, I am really p'd off with it and Seasalt.
