What can we do for starving refugees in Sudan?

We are all seeing the tv reports. What can we do? Which charities are effectively helping. The BBC mentioned the World Food Programme. Is this an effective charity that we can donate to from UK? Any other ideas?

I've been told these water aid adverts have been going on for decades.
Who knows how much of the money donated is going to the actual charity.

I always think charity starts at home.

You donate where you like op

You've answered your own question with those charities

I need to fund feeding my own family

There seem to be plenty of charities who claim to help the needy in 3rd countries so I would assume they are out there now doing just that

I don't understand, sorry? Half the world's population has water and sanitation now, but half still do not.

I was specifically asking about Sudan, those poor injured women trekking hundreds of miles with their malnourished babies, no food or medical care at the other end.😥

ICRC (Red Cross) will be there proving emergency aid

There will probably be a DEC appeal soon - when the 15 big aid agencies in the uk (oxfam, msf etc) do a big joint fundraising campaign.

It is shocking how little coverage the whole situation is getting.

Providing, not proving

Blueberrycreampie · 08/05/2023 22:45

I'd love to donate to these causes but sadly I don't as I feel it's just one big scam and only tiny amounts of aid are directed to the people who need it most.

Obviously donating is a great thing to do, but also you can get your kids involved if you are interested in WFP.

Charities are not a scam, there are overheads but a significant proportion of donations go directly to help the people intended.
I worked for many years in a charity adjacent role and have seen firsthand some of the amazing life changing things that British charities do overseas.
I am not naive, there are some problems and complications around some development programmes, but emergency aid is clear cut - it is literally life saving!
If you can afford it and want to help, please don't be put off by the negative stories.
