A wwyd really.

Put an item up for sale on Vinted, somebody offered me a few quid under the asking price yesterday which I accepted, but they haven't paid yet. Someone else has offered full price today. Would you accept it and tough luck to the person who hasn't paid yet, or say sorry it's sold already and wait for payment from the other person?

First come, first served.

BertieBotts · 08/05/2023 15:49

Accept the other bid!

Itsokaymama · 08/05/2023 15:50

take the new offer, the first person may have changed their mind and you will loose out

TokyoStripe · 08/05/2023 15:53

I'd accept the full price and just explain to the first person, if they ever reply, that the item's already gone unfortunately.
I'm sure most people would understand!

Branster · 08/05/2023 15:53

New offer 100%

The one that hasn't paid might not come back.

TinyBarista · 08/05/2023 15:53

Don't really understand someone offering full price - they'd just buy it, surely?
Don't worry about the offer you already accepted. The item isn't secured until the buyer actually buys (and pays). Word of advice - never reserve items for anyone!

HairyFarnbarn · 08/05/2023 15:53

Definitely accept! The other person knows they need to pay right away or they may lose out.

Beezknees · 08/05/2023 15:55

Thanks, seems unanimous. I'll accept the new one. I can the first person has been on the app today, but hasn't paid.

They messaged me asking if they could buy it but didn't say which item which was a bit odd! So I checked which one they wanted as I have a few bits on there.

I don't really understand why the 2nd person didn't just buy it either. Did you reserve it for the first buyer? Weird to message you.

TheChosenTwo · 08/05/2023 15:59

There if someone has offered a price there’s nothing to stop another buyer just paying full price before them! I sell on there but never buy, I’ve had a few offers that I’ve accepted and not received payment for before someone else has come along and paid full price for.
The item will go to whoever has paid first really.

Beezknees · 08/05/2023 16:02

Nope, I didn't reserve it for them just accepted the payment offer and was waiting for payment.

I've had a few people offer lower, which I've accepted and then they don't buy. Given up guessing what people are thinking. It's only sold when it's paid for, op.

It still doesn't make sense?

The item they are asking about wasn't reserved? How would they even know you've accepted an offer on it? And why would they even think to contact you if the item is for sale and they are happy to pay the listed price.

FWIW as both a buyer and seller if something is for sale then its fair game.

DueyCheatemAndHow · 08/05/2023 16:20

Yep take the offer, first come first served

BertieBotts · 08/05/2023 16:22

Sometimes people list stuff in multiple places so asking if it's OK to buy basically means is this still available.

Also not sure if this happens on the UK one but on the German one about 70% of people prefer to pay outside the system so they can avoid the fees. So they will send a message to ask if it's OK to buy something and then how they can pay.

ThewaytoAmarula · 08/05/2023 16:23

Unfortunately it's not like Ebay where if your offer is accepted, you've committed to buying the item at that price. Confused me when I started using Vinted and I'd accept offers from people that never followed through and paid! So I would go with the higher offer.

They didn't know I'd accepted an offer, they just messaged me saying "Hi can I buy this?" I asked which item they wanted to buy and they told me. I don't know why they did it that way.

Had it been listed a while? Maybe they were seeing of you still had it?

I've had new buyers ask me the walk them through the process but I've never had someone ask me if they can buy something at the advertised price. Odd.

If I wasn't clear in my prior post I'd sell it to the second person (or I'd at least tell them its still for sale and see if they buy it!)
