Measuring blood pressure - significantly different depending on which arm used!

Posting with permission from DP. He has been concerned about his blood pressure, saw GP about 4 months ago and they said to monitor it over extended period but didn't seem overly concerned. So bought home monitor as advised. Have been keeping a note and it has ranged from 165/100 to averaging 150/90 ish. GP still don't seem worried and offered no medication.

Yesterday, on a whim he measured his right arm instead (is right-handed) and it 129/80 pretty consistently. Have googled it of course and seems this is a worrying indicator. Does anyone know anything about this please? His pulse is also sub 60 bpm and he has also raised this with GP.

He is 59 , 6'4" very active, carrying a few pounds extra but not obese just into the overweight BMI, a smoker and heavy drinker too. His has a manual job and is rarely ever ill. He is trying still to give up the cigarettes but after 40+ years it is a hard habit to break. He is cutting down and using patches but struggling to quit.

It's the blood pressure bit that seems a major concern right now.
