If you drive in the middle lane, hogging it, when there is absolutely no need to - why?

Please stop driving on the motorway and go re-read the Highway Code.

It is dangerous, lazy, and completely disrupts the flow of the traffic.

I have just driven 200 miles and the amount of drivers who just don’t know how to drive is astonishing. And the motorway wasn’t even busy!

I have literally no idea how you think I'm driving in two lanes at once.

By not moving over when not overtaking you are making the other lane unusable as drivers can’t undertake you. Therefore you’re blocking two lanes.

ConstanceReid · 08/05/2023 10:00

It’s just bad driving. If people are too nervous to switch lanes, they shouldn’t be on motorways.

I have literally no idea how you think I'm driving in two lanes at once.

Because if you’re in the middle lane and the left is empty, you are obstructing other cars from using it.

they have to pull out to lane 3 and overtake you.

I’ve explained this twice and provided links to diagrams and videos. It’s obviously a difficult concept for you so perhaps you should take some time to read/watch them

Thanks @Sirzy

i didn’t realise it was such a difficult concept for some!

midgemadgemodge · 08/05/2023 10:02

The inside lane isn't the slow lane

You can drive at the speed limit in that lane same as any other lane

rewilded · 08/05/2023 10:02

I've also been caught out too many times moving left behind a lorry and then being forced to trundle along at 60 because the road is busy and I can't safely pull out again. No, ta.

Caught out? That happens - get over it!

Not if it's full of people driving slower than the speed limit, you can't.

Ah, I we're back to the fictional scenario where the left hand lane is always clear.

midgemadgemodge · 08/05/2023 10:05

If it's full of slower people you are overtaking which is the only reason to be in the middle or outside lanes

This thread is about the inside lane being empty and people staying in the middle lane

MargotBamborough · 08/05/2023 10:03

No then you use that magical ‘overtaking’ manoeuvre we discussed earlier 🤦‍♀️

arethereanyleftatall · 08/05/2023 10:06

@MargotBamborough
Please try to understand. You. Are. Slowing. People. Down.
You are making them cross 3 lanes to overtake you. That is slowing them down.

I'll be sure to remember that if the left hand lane is ever clear. Racking my brains to remember the last time that was.

midgemadgemodge · 08/05/2023 10:06

The left hand lane doesn't have to be always clear - it just needs to be clear where you are

Slightly bemused why you can drive in the middle lane which isn't always ckear but can't drive in the left hand lane because it isn't always clear

FurAndFeathers · 08/05/2023 10:06

MargotBamborough · 08/05/2023 10:05

Ah, I we're back to the fictional scenario where the left hand lane is always clear.

You seem unable to comprehend any road condition outside of your own clearly very limited experience.

if you’ve literally never driven on a motorway with clear left hand lanes in over 20 years, I suspect you aren’t as experienced as you seem to think

Weaving in and out rather than just sticking in the lane with the other people driving at the same speed as you then?

midgemadgemodge · 08/05/2023 10:08

Margot dear the thread is about people in the middle when there is no need

Not when you are constantly overtaking a line of lorries

Also if it's just a hassle to move in because in a few minutes you may need to move out , consider taking a break as it sounds like you are too tired to drive properly

RoseBucket · 08/05/2023 10:08

They make me want to catapult them into space, fecking get on my nerves.

I'm saying a clear left hand lane is not normal driving conditions on any of the roads I use. I assume you must live somewhere they have massively overinvested in motorway infrastructure relative to the size of the user base.

Your definition of weaving includes not making use of gaps at least a minute long. That isn't weaving. How long a gap in the left lane do you think there needs to be before you'll move back into it? Is it when you can't see a single other vehicle in it?

RoseBucket · 08/05/2023 10:09

@MargotBamborough learn to bloody drive, is it just this rule you feel you are superior and immune to or are there others.

PatientZorro · 08/05/2023 10:10

Can’t believe all these appalling drivers proudly admitting to causing danger to everyone else because they don’t have the skills or confidence to be on the motorway and change lanes according to the rules of the road.

Get off the motorway you selfish idiots. You are endangering everyone else and just don’t seem to care. Absolute idiots. Kill your own child with your useless driving skills and sense of entitlement, not somebody else’s.

I don't literally count the seconds, I use my common sense. Something I suggest a few of you start doing.

arethereanyleftatall · 08/05/2023 10:11

@MargotBamborough
You detailed yourself that you would happily sit in the middle Lane if there is a lorry you would be overtaking in 'a minute'. That's 2km away. And now you're describing that scenario as fictional.

Slow lane, medium lane and fast lane then. 🙃
