they change

Iamnotthe1 · 07/05/2023 20:36

There is no official boundary for the NTS tests. They aren't set by the STA so there is no nationally standard grading as there are for the end of KS2 assessments.

Rising Stars (the makers of the NTS tests) have made up raw to standardised conversions and the boundaries so it's not comparable to SATs.

@Nimbostratus100
"they change"
Thanks.

Do they change from the school to school or year to year?

If dd got 109 this year what dies that mean?

Or she got 26 out of 36. She's one of the oldest in her year but we've had a soul destroying battle to help her because we think she has literacy issues.... A few years ago she couldn't read.

Reading or maths? And assuming Spring assessments?
I can't download the manuals on my iPad but greater depth in reading, from our class results was somewhere between 115 and 118 and for maths was between 113 and 116

40thmonarch · 07/05/2023 20:37

Sorry yes reading nts assement this spring.

spanieleyes · 07/05/2023 20:56

As others have said, it doesn't directly correlate to SATS because it uses different grade boundaries and it's not standardised nationally. However , Rising Stars do put their own " greater depth" levels on the reports issued. For yr 5 spring reading 114 was expected and 118 was greater depth so the boundary must have been somewhere in between!

40thmonarch · 07/05/2023 21:12

@spanieleyes thanks.

So it's not actually sats I'm talking about.

I think sats are year 6?
This is year 5 test.

We were quickly shown the grade boundaries and I stupidly didn't take a photo.

My working memory is extremely pooor but I half remember that 113 was the next level.
So again I'm reaching in the dark here but below 90 is.... Not reach expectations.

Then perhaps 100 is average and reach expectation.
. Again I'm probably using the entirely wrong words here but I'm praying someone can understand what I'm asking..

So from 100 to 113??? Is average and 113 to 120 is working at deprh6snd 113 onwards Is eyxta depth?? " ++

Sorry for typo my spell thing is fighting me.

I think only a teacher in primary would know this

OP posts:
40thmonarch · 07/05/2023 21:15

@spanieleyes

Why did you mention it sats?

I could be wrong but this is a year 5 test and I've not mentioned sats? But perhaps has a teacher you may know that secretly they do relate??

OP posts:
spanieleyes · 07/05/2023 21:18

I AM a teacher in primary ( well, I'm a head teacher so I suppose that counts!)
As I said, I can't open the teachers manual on my iPad so can only go from the class results of the test taken in my school this year. 70 to 91 is working towards, 92 to c115-117 was expected and 118 and above was greater depth.

40thmonarch · 07/05/2023 21:18

@Iamnotthe1
. Sorry I missed your message.

I didn't ask or mention sats.

What do you mean re score? The school would set it's own boundary?

In that case what wouid 26 out of 36 be?

OP posts:
40thmonarch · 07/05/2023 21:20

Ok thanks spaniel 🙏

OP posts:
spanieleyes · 07/05/2023 21:20

No, we are explaining that the levels don't relate to SATS levels in year 6 because there is no national test for year 5, only year 6. So different schools MAY use different grade boundaries than the ones set by Rising Stars, they are not compulsory in any way.

spanieleyes · 07/05/2023 21:22

Sorry, just noticed that was maths! I will look at reading

Apologies!

spanieleyes · 07/05/2023 21:25

Working towards was from 70 to about 94 for reading, then 94-115/6 for expected and above c117 for greater depth

@Iamnotthe1
. Sorry I missed your message.

I didn't ask or mention sats.

What do you mean re score? The school would set it's own boundary?

In that case what wouid 26 out of 36 be?

I mention the SATs (End of Key Stage Two Assessments) because those, along with the end of KS1, are the only places where "Working Towards" / "Expected Standard" / "Greater Depth" actually exist officially.

Many schools have incorporated that language into their internal assessment data but they mean different things from school to school and so, to be honest, lack consistency.

The tests you're referring to are an example of this: Rising Stars have decided a score that equates to what they've decided to call "Greater Depth" but this doesn't necessarily correlate to the actual and official uses of "Greater Depth" at Y2 and Y6.

From the information you've provided, it seems your daughter has done well, particularly for a child who couldn't read a few years ago.

40thmonarch · 07/05/2023 21:54

Thank you both 💐
