Should I take dd to out of hours or wait it out?

Dd1 is 16, she has had a temperature of between 39-39.5 consistently since Wednesday, it comes down with paracetamol and ibuprofen other symptoms are a sore throat, headache and loss of appetite. Her tonsils are enlarged but there is no puss or white spots that I can see with a torch (previously with tonsillitis I could see the spots done a covid test and it’s negative). I think see how she is tomorrow morning and call 111 if no improvement but dh thinks I/he should call now and take her tonight. Obviously if she needed urgent treatment during the night she would be taken no question about it, so what would you all do?

I'd do your suggestion. Actually I'd probably have called this afternoon but since its late I'd wait now and let her sleep.

Singleandproud · 06/05/2023 21:54

I'd wait it out, DD had similar the first time she had covid eventually on day 6 I think it went back down.

If she was a tiny baby with a risk of febrile seizures then I'd be more concerned but an otherwise healthy elder teen is likely to be fine. Obviously if it starts heading over 40 I'd get help.

It just sounds like a typical viral infection. I wouldn't personally be considering OOH or 111.

If she's not in massive pain I'd reduce the use of medication too as fever is an important immune response to fight infection.

Choconuttolata · 06/05/2023 21:56

When did you last do a Covid test? If not today do another just in case. If she is drinking ok and passing urine and seeming ok in herself especially when the fever is reduced then I would wait until the morning. If she gets worse overnight then get her seen. It could be glandular fever with those symptoms.

She doesn't need urgent medical care, or really any at all.

Plenty of hydration and some paracetamol to get her to sleep.

Ok glad I’m not under reacting! Did another covid test this afternoon it was still negative. Dh is worried as she has asthma but she is not wheezing and has not needed to use her inhaler at all so I think it’s irrelevant to this illness.

She isn’t herself has slept pretty much all day and not really eaten anything (a couple of biscuits) but has drunk several litres of iced water so is not dehydrated.

I had similar symptoms recently, however the throat pain was unbearable and I was bed bound. Eventually called 111 and was seen, it was step throat. Started feeling better within hours of antibiotics, felt like a miracle pill.

I really don't think asking randoms on the Internet is the best idea. You've already drip fed more information about how your daughter is and underlying health issues. I am under reactive usually but on this I sm unsure given your latest info. Why listen to a bunch of people you don't know rather than the father of your child.

Has she seen a doctor?
I'd certainly take her to the doctor or call 111 by tomorrow.
