5yo playdate

DD wants to have a classmate over. I've only ever had my friends' kids round for playdates so just wondering what the deal is at this age.

Should it be weekday or weekend?
Should I offer dinner if it's after school?
How long should it last?
Should the friend's mum stay?

All depends on circumstances and what both mums are comfortable with. Does the other mum collect from school so ye could meet a chat about a suitable time after school. But if child goes to after school l would leave it until a Saturday. I would make sure the other mum knows she is welcome to stay but she may choose to head off for a while. Just chat through with the other mum what works for both of ye.

I'd check with the mum but after school so she could come too, just until 5 with a snack, not dinner. Or a Saturday afternoon is another good choice.

From reception I just collected from school. Didn’t have the parents stay. Though sometimes they would come in for a brew at pick up time. Fed them tea. 2 hours is plenty at that age. Home by 5.30 latest.

I think after school works best as there’s a clear cut off 3-5 play, 5 dinner and go about 5.30.

weekend play dates are fine but I’d stick to 3hrs max - someone invited my child over and offered up 6 hrs- think they were insane

My DD is 5. Playdates are usually after school, host parent or nanny collects, kids have dinner at 5ish then the other parent collects at 5.30ish. Occasionally we have had friends round at the weekend or school holidays too and that would be an afternoon play, early dinner and pick up.

I'm definitely not offering 6 hrs! My house would be trashed 😂Weekday after school seems a safer way to limit the time!
