Should I (mostly impulse) buy a Nintendo Switch?!

That's it, really. Been thinking about this for a while. I grew up with consoles such as ye olde Gameboy, and then later the N64 etc. I loved playing games such as Zelda, Mario Kart and Perfect Dark.

I wouldn't want any other console I don't think. I have looked on Facebook market place for secondhand ones, but I am not sure I could trust sellers based on stories you hear.

I have ADHD and I am prone to impulse buying - this is the concern!

Give it a week and see if you still want it then. This is a very effective way of dealing with impulse buying

Bigpinktrain · 06/05/2023 13:44

The switch is fabulous, we have two, one lite for travel and then the other normal one. Lots of family friendly fun, great if you have friends round, and if you go to cex or similar you can get good deals!

FinchHinch · 06/05/2023 13:45

BUY IT!!!!!!!!!!

You will need online to play the old N64 and SNES games though.

Singleandproud · 06/05/2023 13:46

Can you afford it twice? That's my cut off for buying things like that, if you can afford to buy it twice then go for it. If its going to leave you short then don't.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 06/05/2023 13:49

Dd has one and she plays it a lot. I was thinking of getting the lite on as she wants me to play animal crossing and I also loved my Nintendo DS but a lot of games are now for the switch. I haven't yet as can't really justify the costs with other things I need. If you can afford it I would.

Pussycatbeen · 06/05/2023 13:51

I love it, just for Zelda. It might be hard with adhd not to get lost in it for hours, but there are unhealthier things you could be lost in.

Bonus of a long, involved, brainy game like Zelda is that you're not tempted to buy lots of expensive, less interesting games, too.

Ellemeg82 · 06/05/2023 13:52

It's so much fun. Go for it. I'm also an old fan of the N64 and you can even play old N64 games on it with the Nintendo Online Pass.
We have Mario Kart, Mario Odysessy, Zelda.
My 5yo loves it too.

QuinnofHearts · 06/05/2023 13:52

I'm 37, so old enough to know better and a mum of 2. I also have a very good job. My OLED switch is my best friend 🤣🤣🤣

Fooshufflewickjbannanapants · 06/05/2023 13:52

Do it! Xx

aSofaNearYou · 06/05/2023 13:53

If you can afford it, buy it!

Have you played Breath of the Wild? The sequel comes out next week so you've got a lot of gameplay there.

I’d get one again boys really like it and it’s got some fab games if you like Nintendo absolutely get one. I think they are fairly easy to sell on too if you decide it’s not for you. We have 2 and loads of games

That's actually brilliant advice!

If you’re prone to impulse buying, wait a couple of weeks and if you still want it, then buy it.

We love ours.

I have ADHD and bought one - have barely touched it!! Whoops.

What am I missing?!

I wouldn't say I play loads of different things about it but I guess it depends if you happen to enjoy certain games it has to offer. I've sunk a huge amount of time into Zelda, Mario Kart and Overcooked, for example. It's also good fit little cheap games.

Obeythedancecommander · 06/05/2023 14:45

I have a switch, my OH bought it for me when I was stuck in bed breastfeeding a very light sleeping baby who always needed to be right next to me.

I still play it now and love it, animal crossing, stardew valley, pokemon, zelda etc... I've always been a fan of games so it's a no brained for me.

Rubyupbeat · 06/05/2023 15:12

I've had mine for 3 years, it's a great purchase. There is so much choice in games. I am literally battling through Witcher at the moment.

I think this is very succinct for where I am at! It was the hours of Zelda I particularly loved and would be looking forward to again.

However, the points about impulse and checking about the cost are good ones ... and I have been given several things on here to go down a bit of a Google rabbit hole about.

Thank you, everyone.

Yes! And get animal crossing.
we just got one for my sister’s 50th

Twoshoesnewshoes · 06/05/2023 15:52

Also, do you play Polytopia on your phone?
years of fun.

GloomySkies · 06/05/2023 15:55

I accidentally sat up until 1am playing lego star wars then minecraft on the children's switch so I would say no

Haus1234 · 06/05/2023 15:57

Yes do it! If you ever played Pokémon then get Pokémon Legends: Arceus which is my favourite.

themonkeysnuts · 06/05/2023 16:02

Yes
especially as theres a new Zelda out in a few days

RhubarbFairy · 06/05/2023 16:12

My DC have one each. They're great. On the back of the Mario Kart thread, I'm very tempted to buy myself a Lite so I can play when I like.
