London parking

Going to London next Saturday to the theatre. Our f'ing train is cancelled as they're on strike again. Where's the best place to park in North or West London to get a tube into the centre (assuming they're running) We're driving from the Midlands.

I used an app called Just Park for a similar situation recently as I didn’t want to rely on finding on street parking that wasn’t residents only etc.

You can search for spaces near a location like a tube station. And see reviews and ratings to check that they are genuine and in a safe area.

Enjoy your show!

Wherer are you coming from?

There's a big car park at Stanmore right at the end of the Jubilee line or you could park at Luton (I think Luton Airport Parkway might be free?) and get the train down.

Oh sorry, just seen it's from the Midlands.

JustDanceAddict · 06/05/2023 09:05

Look at Parkopedia -
If you’re coming from the midlands you want to be near the end of the M1/A1 which is the northern line tube.
Also you need to see if your car is ulez compliant and if not park outside the zone.
I don’t want to say where I live but my tip is look for zone 4 stations w free parking nearby on a Saturday.

Finchley Central, huge car park

Used Cockfosters once too, again huge car park

On-street parking in Maida Vale is free after 6.30 on Friday until 8.30am Monday. Get a bus or Tube from there.

W9 (Maida Vale/Little Venice) good if you are taking the M1 as it brings you straight there and is very central. I wouldn’t bother with a car park that is far. On the Tube, you’ll be at the theatre within minutes.

If you get into London before 12 and leave after 6, no congestion charge. Which theatre? I went to see Hamilton and got a % off a Q park parking via my ticket. Check your theatre website and check Just Park for alternative prices.

For the west end, I use Q parking on Whitcomb Street.

Beebumble2 · 06/05/2023 09:21

I’d also suggest Finchley Central or East Finchley tube stations.

Westfield Shepherd’s Bush, straight on to the central line. Can park for 24 hours for about £15. If you pre register your credit card you don’t even have to faff with tickets.

I'm in the same boat 30/31 May - staying overnight in central London, only live in Herts so we can get in easily on 30 May but can't get home on 31 May when the strike is on.

Need somewhere I can leave car safely overnight. Would the Stanmore car park be ok? Would like to avoid the ULEZ if I can.

ginislife · 11/05/2023 05:37

Thanks all for the suggestions. I remembered I have a friend in Greenford so we're now parking at hers and she's dropping us at the Central line station and we can get off at Holborn - I'd quite like to go on the Elizabeth line to see what it's like but we need to be in Covent Garden for lunch so central line seems to be the right thing to do.

You can get the Elizabeth line to Tottenham Court Road and walk to covent Garden.
