Just that really. I need to take a pudding to a street party and I’ve no idea what to do. I’m struggling a bit with some stressful stuff and totally forgotten about this so it needs to be quick, very easy (my do t have capacity in either time or headspace to put lots of effort in) and cheap.

Loads of the others are great cooks so I know it’ll be loads of homemade things. I just don’t think I have the energy to put much effort in at the moment!

please give me your suggestions! Tasty, cheap and very easy please! Thank you!

Trifle! Go and get a couple of boxes of trifle mix

EatTheDamnCake · 06/05/2023 07:50

Trifle (no jelly)

Just buy madeira cake, booze, fruit, custard and cream and assemble it. Yes, it's a bit retro but then so are street parties for the monarchy Grin

Buy donuts!!

Berries and cream
Eton mess
If you want to make something this is my go to if I need to make something for a party, it's super easy but impressive! https://www.nigella.com/recipes/irish-cream-tiramisu

Desperatelyseekingcommonsense · 06/05/2023 07:53

I’d just just do rocky road or similar cut into small squares. Lots of people would rather have a little nibble on something easy to hold than a bowlful of something.

Batalax · 06/05/2023 07:53

Scones easy to make, clotted cream and jam.

MimiSunshine · 06/05/2023 07:54

Just buy something. No one will actually care and most people aren’t actually as enthused by home baking as they make out.
most gush over home baking its just the socially expected thing to do.

go to a locally bakery and buy a naice selection of individual cakes and slices. Take them along and say “I didn’t have time to bake this week so I thought I’d support a local business instead.”

Smiling slightly smugly but with a self deprecating shoulder lift.

then stop stressing and enjoy the day.

CoronationKicking · 06/05/2023 07:55

Go buy something. Honestly, nobody will give a shit.

Ducatifan · 06/05/2023 07:57

Yep buy something. I don’t eat home baking when I don’t know where it’s come from. I get that’s possibly just me though.

redspottedmug · 06/05/2023 07:57

Supermarket doughnuts. Buy a few bags of the standard jam or custard filled ones. Cheap, fresh and tasty.

Greengreented · 06/05/2023 07:58

Chocolate brownies are very easy to make if you want to do something homemade rather than the bought option (although nothing wrong with the latter of course, if it’s easier for you).

Theunamedcat · 06/05/2023 08:01

Are you near a co-op? Go buy some pop dots fairly cheap nibbles basically they are doughnut balls personally I would do that rather than go big especially if more than one person is bringing dessert

crumpet · 06/05/2023 08:04

Eton mess. Supermarket meringue, cream, frozen (defrosted) fruits of the forest or similar. Job done. You can make fancier versions if you prefer.

Hohofortherobbers · 06/05/2023 08:10

I'm going very low brow , choc rice crispie cakes

MrBit · 06/05/2023 08:13

Go to aldi
Buy a box of their large cup cakes £5 ish
Press a thumb/finger/knife mark in several of them
Transfer to a tupperware box
Present them as your own
Bonus points if you sprinkle extra decorations to put people off the scent

Anotherselfemployedcleaner · 06/05/2023 08:14

As per PP, some sort of traybake cut into squares - brownies/rocky road/flapjacks etc?

Or to buy ready made, Sainsbury do this, if you have one near you:

you can check if available locally here:

Effingmagicfairy · 06/05/2023 08:14

Go get some tubs of cornflake cakes/brownies/millionaire shortbreads/flapjacks - Waitrose, M&S definitely have them, tip into containers of your own and pop those on the table. DC love, adults happy with just a bite. It’s finger food so no dishes required.

thesharkcaller · 06/05/2023 08:14

Banoffee pie is my go to easy homemade pudding. It does need a little time for the base to set. For it to be easy you need to buy the tinned caramel. Loads of recipes online.

Elpheba · 06/05/2023 08:14

Coconut ice- super easy, slightly retro

CelerEtAudax · 06/05/2023 09:19

Go back to basics. The choclolate cornflake/rice crispies cake is always a winner PROVIDED you use really good quality chocolate.

Bemyclementine · 06/05/2023 09:22

Victoria sponge. Classic. Or fairy cakes with strawberry on top.

CurrentHun · 06/05/2023 09:23

Jam tarts

Sudeko · 06/05/2023 09:25

Are you near a Costco. Those huuuuuge sickly cakes always go down well and are reasonably priced. I wouldn't go near one but apparently, they taste really good and nobody will know where you bought them if you chuck out the boxes.

CorgiCoronet · 06/05/2023 09:58

I am British but my heritage isn’t so my family just don’t bake cakes. I get the feeling it’s very much a competitive thing among Brits, the bake sales at school spring to mind.

I went to a jubilee party last year and bought ready made meringue nests and filled with clotted cream and added bluberries and strawberries, all red white and blue.

LudicrouslyCapaciousBag · 06/05/2023 10:01

The people at the party with allergies will be eternally grateful if you buy something and display it with the label so that they can actually confidently eat it rather than play Russian roulette with Sharon from no 42’s brownies Grin
