Washer-Dryer or washer and dryer?

Hi, yes I have googled. All mixed reviews from articles etc. I'd like to hear experiences if possible.
I do need a new washer, dryer is years old and I'd like to upgrade to condenser. I would prefer more space as dryer is currently in the dining room.
If I buy separately I'd replace the washer first but (with my luck) the dryer would properly break down soon after 😅

Separates, I found that having a washer dryer meant it took 5-6 hours just for a full cycle & working full time meant I spent all weekend doing my 3 loads, whites, colours & my husband's work stuff which was so dirty working in a forge I would never was anything else with it.

Separate. Combined ones don’t dry clothes; they make them hot and wet. And the drum capacity is a lot smaller. Best to put clothes on a high spin RPM if you can to get rid of excess water before drying.

Combined are awful! The one i had took bloody ages to dry anything.

I can't comment on washer-dryers as I've never owned one myself. However, the people I know who have had them (in the past mind, so they could be much better now!) did have problems with them. I used to have just a washer (and a Dry-Buddy!) when it was just me and DS, and up to the point when DD was a baby. However I did have to be regimental with doing the washing, coordinating drying etc.

After one night at Xmas (when DD was a tiny baby), where DS and DSS (both small) each had two night wetting accidents, and then DD projectile vommitted all over my bed, we got a tumble drier!! I guess if you can go for separate then do that. If not then I guess a decent washer dryer might be better than just a washer?

It depends on how you do laundry. Very occasional use of the dryer, then a washer dryer would probably do. If you often have a load in the machine and another in the dryer, then get separate. Bear in mind that you will usually need to sort between wash and drying cycles as some clothes won't go in the dryer and loads usually need to be lighter to dry than wash. So rarely an option to wash and dry in one go.
If space isn't an issue, I'd probably still get separates. Easier to maintain and replace if just one bit breaks.
