Head lice - please help

I posted a few weeks ago about head lice and we’re STILL plagued by it. I’m at the end of my tether - I did the Hedrin treatment on my son a week past Tuesday and did the 2nd treatment Tuesday night, a week later as it said. Today I’ve just found another live lice on his head - what am I doing wrong?!! Why can I not get rid of them?!! Can someone talk me through step by step what I should do as I’m obviously doing something wrong here and I just want to cry.

Are you brushing with a nutty gritty cone daily?

legalseagull · 05/05/2023 17:21

Urgh. Nitty gritty comb

lovemycottage · 05/05/2023 17:23

I know your pain op, my dd have waist long hair and we were battling with head lice for ages.😭😭

You need to go through your son's hair daily is my only advice.🍀🍀🍀

Are you wet combing with conditioner every day with a nutty gritty comb? You need to break the cycle and comb out the eggs before they hatch.

Nittygritty comb & NitWits All-In-One Head Lice Treatment Spray, Kills Nits & Eggs, Includes Lice Spray 120ml & Nit Comb ,120 ml (Pack of 1) amzn.eu/d/g23YTQ2

We had an alert that children at the DC's school had lice and DH immediately combed olive oil through the DC's hair thoroughly. They never got the lice. If you can comb out the nits and comb coconut oil or olive oil through your DS's hair it will smother the adult lice. The DC's hair had a 'sheen' for days and when it started to fade DH combed more oil in. I also didn't wash their hair more than about twice a week. Lice love clean hair and their friend who had beautiful clean hair got lice.

ChazNWave · 05/05/2023 17:28

Yeah nitty gritty, daily, use conditioner to stop the little bastards crawling away whilst you are combing.

If kiddo has long/ish hair do consider a short do once eradicated (don't take lice ridden child to the hairdresser, ofc)

I treat with Nitwits and then go through the hair every 2 days using conditioner & nittygritty comb.
Hedrin has been useless when I've used it in the past. Nitwits however is really good plus it smells nice & leaves the hair non greasy.

Sorry I know this is a couple of months’ old.

Tell me you’re lice free now OP @SuzieBishop?

Having a nightmare, DS’ x 2 and me all have/had lice. I haven’t actually found any live ones since the first day but I’m doing a conditioner/nitty gritty comb through every other day (every day on the DC, every other on me, I have thick long hair and each go takes 2 hours!) and still keep finding the little brown eggs! Not just one or two either, at least 10 each time.

Will we ever be egg free? Is there any magic solution that kills the actual eggs for certain? We are going away to stay with family this weekend, and in 3 weeks are going abroad. I don’t want to still be spending hours each day doing this when we’re on our expensive can’t really afford it holiday!!!

LemonDrizzle10 · 26/07/2023 15:17

We’ve been using a home made tea tree oil spray for DD for the whole time she’s been in school. Apparently nits hate it, she’s not had any to date - they’ve been in school though.

Fifiellz · 26/07/2023 15:29

Hedrin Once clears the whole lot and dissolves the eggs. Just make sure hair is saturated.

sickofteenagers · 26/07/2023 15:30

Best treatment is Derbac

Haggisfish3 · 26/07/2023 15:31

The eggs will be dead, but they still stick firmly to the hair.

ordellrobie · 26/07/2023 16:17

Day one treat then comb out and wash hair

Get a maintenance spray or make one with tea tree oil and/or neem oil and spray that on the hair before school daily.

use the nit comb often in the bath with the maintenance spray

We keep them at bay this way
