How often do you wash your...............

Oven gloves? I bet you weren't expecting that?

Inspired by me accidentally dipping the oven gloves in the lasagne I was trying to get out of the air fryer yesterday, while trying hard not to dip the oven gloves in my lasagne, because they looked a bit grotty and I know the cat sits on them if they get left on top of the microwave.

So Mumsnet, place that attracts those who like to wash everything, on the hour, every hour, but where I've never actually seen anyone talking about washing oven gloves, has anyone ever done this?

Did they take ages to dry? Get all mis-shapen?

Or alternatively, any suggestions for alternative ways of taking things out of the air fryer bucket as it's a bit tricky with oven gloves anyway?

If I notice they’re dirty. They wash fine.

MermaidEyes · 05/05/2023 09:52

I just wash them and my apron every few weeks when they look a bit grotty. Always wash and dry fine. I usually buy dark coloured or black ones though.

I wash them if I get food on them but find over time they lose their heatproofness and do not work anymore, burnt fingers a few times

I find oven gloves are never truly the same after a wash. The stuffing goes lumpy.

Blamethecat57 · 05/05/2023 09:56

I don't own any.
I use toweling tea towels.
I like to be able to feel the edges of trays,dishes...
Am I missing something?

I find this too, I hate washing them for this reason. I only do it when they’re too bad to ignore.

Flavabobble · 05/05/2023 09:58

I have about 3 pairs. Just wash them with the tea towels.

Chasingsquirrels · 05/05/2023 09:59

Every 3 or 4 or more months, or if they are particularly dirty.
I've got 2, so don't have to wait for 1 to dry. Only cheap £4/5 Tesco or B&M ones. Got the 2nd after I had a new kitchen because I liked the colours.

Air fryer (basket type) and things like lasagne can be tricky. I haven't mastered it.

CrunchyCarrot · 05/05/2023 10:00

Ahhh OP. I am going to have to buy some new ones, now. I hadn't noticed just how dirty they'd become (I tend to not notice things like that). Pretty sure if I try to wash these they won't be much better afterwards so will spare myself the disappointment!

Simplepink · 05/05/2023 10:00

Usually after I’ve dipped them in lasagna, the cat sleeps on ours too 😂

Same here.

PinkCast · 05/05/2023 10:01

Maybe once every few years, if they end up being dipped into lasagne 🤪

Now the radio question..... how do you do a lasagne in an air fryer? I only use mine for chips, and maybe sausages.

PinkCast · 05/05/2023 10:02

Radio question = Real question!

MaisieMay23 · 05/05/2023 10:06

I use the ones that are double ended and like rope/cord, can't think what they're called?! So there's no filling to go lumpy, but they do get a bit mushaoen, but the soften up/go back to the original shape.

if it's going to be unduly messy I use older tea towels as they're easier to wash.

I can't help with the air fryer except to say I keep meaning to go online to see what accessories to get &I'm hoping to find some with handles!! I only got it a couple of weeks ago and so far this is the only negative point. I wish I'd bought it sooner! (Sur La table dual drawer, now on special. Typical!! Just in case anyone is interested!!)

JollyJellyCat · 05/05/2023 10:06

I am very prone to dipping mine in lasagne so I wash once a fortnight, when I do the kitchen hand towel.

I'm generally pretty lax with washing stuffbut I find if the grot builds up too much it can't be removed.

Sophie Alsopp oven gloves wash and wear well.

Mabelface · 05/05/2023 10:10

Mine get bunged in the washing machine around once a month and hung on their usual hook stuck to the side of the fridge freezer to dry.

LadyFlumpalot · 05/05/2023 10:14

Ah, I have silicone ones. They just need wiping down when they get food on them.
