Does anyone else watch this? No one is killed or seriously injured in the clips shown but it's quite shocking how easily accidents can happen. A small clip sends cars rolling and catching fire and usually the car that's not at fault comes off the worst. I'm a careful driver of 30+ years, and have only had 2 minor accidents in that time but this programme has made me realise that makes zero difference when there are drivers taking stupid risks and wheels just waiting to come flying off lorries 😮

Be aware the video is shocking but luckily the driver was not seriously hurt.

Statistically driving is safer than ever. If you watch clips of the rare shocking events it screws your perspective.

One in two people get cancer, that's what I worry about!

Yes, it scares the life out of me. I hate driving on motorways - it isn't my driving that I am worried about, it's all the other idiots out there! Perhaps I should just stop watching such programmes Grin

Pootles34 · 05/05/2023 10:02

Stop watching these clips. Realistically, most of the time when you see a bump on the road, the cars just take the impact and no one flips over or bursts into flames.

These clips are just intended to keep people watching nonsense on the internet - trust your experience of 30 years on the roads instead.

Drive defensively. Assume every other human on the road is stupid, can't see anything (including you) and are drugged/drunk.

OP, I used to be on trauma call for my hospital for decades. Before the seatbelt law, I would be in theatre all night dealing with patients who had been flung through windscreens.
Before acrylic safety glass came along, I remember one woman who hit a loose cow from behind on a dark bend - the cow’s rear shattered the glass and the cow panicked and shat all over her before bouncing out of the windscreen and leaving her bleeding from glass cuts.
Before air bags, patients suffered blunt chest trauma to the heart from the steering wheel.
Nowadays, cars have so many safety features, that the death and injury rates are much lower. Better design of roads and advance warning of hazards has helped too.
You need to be alert when driving, and read the road ahead and around you, but you really are not at particularly high risk when travelling. Try to put it in proportion!
