So I need to know if something is even possible. I have a pair of jeans with a broken zip, the button does up fine (albeit slightly on the tight side) but I wanted to know if there is anyway of moving the original position of the zip if I get them repaired to create some more room?

Am clueless in these things.

Thank you

I'm not sure how simply moving the position of the zip would create more room, surely you would need additional fabric to be inserted? I'm also not sure how you would move the zip if we are talking about regular jeans.

Disclaimer: I'm a novice dressmaker, hopefully someone more experienced will know better than me!

It depends how much spare material there is to sew the new zip into, but ime it's just not worth the time/money unless your jeans are 7's or similar. In my yoof we would make holes either side of the bust zip and use a boot lace to keep it closed. Thought ourselves very cool... 🙄

I replace jeans zips frequently, but they go in the exact same position. There's no extra fabric in a fly front. If you don't tuck your top in, you could use a waistband expander (elastic loop and button) and leave the top inch of the zip undone? It'd be hidden then.

I used to do that too! I'd forgotten about that. I laced mine in a column of x's. It wasn't so cool in winter trying to untie the lace when my fingers were frozen and I was desperately needing to pee!

Oops, that was in reply to CalistoNoSolo

Thank you is there a way to repair a zip that’s come of the runner on one side (if that makes sense)

I have always just cut into the zip near the bottom and threaded the slider back on, but this inevitably shortens the zip and you may not have much leeway with jeans.

There is a guide here https://www.wikihow.com/Fix-a-Jean-Zipper to doing it in a way that preserves the length. I haven't tried it but it looks as if it should work,

3 Ways to Fix a Jean Zipper - wikiHow

Jean zippers are usually tough and durable, but they do sometimes break. Depending on the problem, there are several ways that you can fix a broken zipper. You can remove top stops and teeth to get a zipper pull back onto the track, or you...
