Voter ID in maiden name - will I get refused?

I've just realised I haven't updated my passport since getting married (my only form of photo ID), and it's in my maiden name. I double barrelled my name after marriage, so it still have some semblance of my maiden name.

Will I be refused to vote?

Just checked for you...

So the name you're registered to vote with should match the ID

I took my driving license and they didn’t even check it!

She's not an anonymous voter. Op have you update the electoral register since you changed your name.

Fear not, mine was checked enough for the both of us. I’ve never had ID checked so hard in my life,

bennybobo · 04/05/2023 20:21

Ignore me, I've just found my polling card and I hadn't updated my name!! Panic over!

Mine was fine, took my deed poll ciot just in case, and they said ID was for photo checking not name checking. Can you take your marriage certificate in case?

Georgie8 · 04/05/2023 20:24

Perhaps take marriage certificate too.

We went at different times, but my husband said his id was scrutinized, whilst they barely looked at mine 🤷‍♀️

Cross posted with OP

Op is sorted but for anyone else you can take your marriage certificate if you’re in the same situation

TiredOfCleaning · 04/05/2023 20:26

I am in the same situation and was told I could take my marriage cert along as well to prove it.

I do this for everything nowadays it seems- opening bank accounts - giving to HR when joining a new firm etc. I never changed my passport because I am from a different country and my visa is in my unmarried name. Plus also there is no-one in my family to 'carry on' the unmarried name so i use it fairly interchangeably.

I took my marriage certificate but they didn’t even glance at it

Same here - I was starting to doubt myself!

jotunn · 04/05/2023 20:31

I took my driving licence. It was carefully checked before I went into the voting hall. It was not checked at any point while I was collecting the ballot paper so they know I had id but they had no way of linking it to me.

MarshaMelrose · 04/05/2023 20:33

I wouldn't worry too much. I've just been and they looked at my id and gave it me back. Another person then looked up my address and asked my name. 🤷 So they're not that bothered. I really think you'll be OK.

Theunamedcat · 04/05/2023 20:40

They glanced at mine read the address I think my finger was over my name 😂
