Thrush not going away

I got vaginal thrush about 5-6 weeks ago. Usually when I have thrush (maybe once a year type thing), it goes away with canasten/OTC meds.

This time it didn't work, so I have been put on Fluconazole which I have to take twice a week. It's still not going away...

I have a week left of these meds and then have to go back to the GP, but has anyone had this before?! What is going on?? I'm starting to get really worried!

Have they done a swab? It may not actually be thrush if it’s not going away?

I was going to say the same - if it isn't going away with thrush medication, then maybe it's something else?

No swab, but the doctor did a vaginal exam and confirmed it was thrush - white lumpy discharge etc.

Yes It sounds like Thrush. As I am suffering with it for years now. Have tried fluclonozole for 6 months and most of other pessary stuff but to be honest none of them worked for me. I would suggest don't use any pessary as it only makes it worse instead try using multi gyn floraplus works a treat and it controls thrush within 24 hrs.
Thrush creeps up slowly and can make you really miserable. I hope that helps !

You better ask GP for sensitivity check (tells you which medicine is best for your case) and culture check ( tells you what type of candida species causing it). As they don't do sensitivity as a routine and keep prescribing general medicine available for thrush. If it's a non albican species of candida it won't respond to these OTC medicines. In my case they took almost 2 years prescribing the general medicine after that they did sensitivity. Changing diet will also help you just be aware. I am from Asia and home made remedy used there for thrush is Amla powder ( Indian Gooseberry) put one tsp in warm Water and drink 2-3 times a day. But you have to do it for a month or couple of months if it's stubborn thrush. Also drinking rice water 2-3 times a day helps. ( soak up little raw rice in water -rice :water , 1:8 ratio) these costs nothing but do help with the situation get better (they help change the PH of the vaginal and bad bacteria doesnt survive anymore) and thrush is basically a water infection. And if anything keeps wet is going to catch mold so because the area stays wet it gives opportunity for the bad yeast to grow treating it with medicines doesn't help as you just treat the symptoms not the basic cause of it. Once water infection goes thrush will go away. Good luck!

I agree with pp, you need to ask for a swab and specific tests to check what exactly is the issue so targeted treatment can be applied. Allergies may also be at play here.
