If you're single and living alone with a dog, how do you do it?

Do you have help?

I am about to be in this situation.

I am currently unemployed but start two part time jobs (one day a week each one from home one not) soon, and have an interview for two other jobs soon too for the remaining three days a week.

Depending on which one I get I could be out of the house four days a week.
I have my parents nearby but it isn't fair to get them to have dog all the time and they're elderly. My Mum can't walk her as she's too strong for her, but she wouldn't mind popping in to let her out and spend a bit of time.

With the price of walkers and sitters I'd almost be better off not working.

My ex lives 60 miles away but she's 'sort of' her dog too. She'd have her for me but the logistics of getting her there (I drive she doesn't).
Maybe she'd house sit.

I have a lodger who doesn't work due to disability but she's getting married and moving out soon, and my last few jobs have been WFH.

Just trying to get some ideas from anyone else in this situation.

I walk the dogs before work and a neighbour lets them out at lunchtime. I then walk them again when I get home.
If it’s a long day I get someone to walk them in the middle of the day.

I’m not in your position exactly but I do have a dog that we have to juggle with work.
our dog is small and doesn’t need a lot of walks so for us it is more the company he needs.
He is fine for 4/5 hours on his own especially if we make sure he has a tiring busy day the day before.
things that we have tried and found useful:
local friend/relative/teenager (like your mum) to pop in for an hour, let dog out, sit with dog.
Is a neighbour in a similar position and might help out perhaps in return for you doing the same when you are not at work?
dog walker if it need a lot of exercise.
on work days make sure to fit in a good walk and time with dog before you leave, make that the last thing you do before leaving.
consider leaving radio on.
we don’t leave him unattended with chews but we do leave him his lick mat that keeps him busy as we are leaving and just after.
any option to slightly reduce the time out of the house e.g. a slightly later start meaning the journey is quicker as you are not travelling in rush hour.
can you compress any hours and the dog go to your ex for 2 days/1 night?

I work full time and use doggy daycare. It is expensive but I have no choice as I can't leave my dog alone. Good luck.
