Anyone fed up of the commercial exploitation of the menopause?.

It's relentless. Menopause shampoo, pyjamas, gadgets for opening jars-(I kid you not-Meera Syal saying that since menopause her hands have been sore so...) and that's just in the last 30 minutes! I want to scream!! (I'm post menopause-presumably that's why predatory big business annoys me so much-it must be my lack of hormones....)

Also-I do know that for many women the menopause is a horrible time. But for many others it isn't. We really shouldn't be terrifying younger women (being prepared is great. Being scared isn't) or handing employers another reason to discriminate against women. We've fought so hard for something approaching equality!

I agree. I also think that people will have symptoms by proxy almost as it is being shoved down our necks so much at the moment. The amount of times I hear peri and menopause drives me nuts. It's great that it's not being brushed over but it is becoming overload.

I'm on a certain site and it's got a menopause chat. The women are neurotic suicidal and dramatic. It's been pumped up to massive heights this menopause thing.

Who's taking them? Sucker's??

Lots of women sail through menopause. Some seem to have a lot of issues. The assumption that all women turn into virtual invalids is wrong.

Also, some of the complaints about menopause are fairly trivial. I had some hot flushes. Big deal! The same with night sweats - a bit yuk but again hardly life changing. Vaginal dryness made that area uncomfortable but was easily resolved with a good cream.

For people with serious chronic conditions eg ME/CFS, arthritis, etc and it’s galling to see a few women in the media talking this up. I’m not convinced about brain fog either.

Some women do seem to suffer severe symptoms, possibly based round depression and hormones, for reasons unclear to me but they are a minority. The change does bring changes that also come with ageing generally. Prolapsed vaginas (doing Hegel exercises) help - but this is something men also get.

I mean prolapses in that area obviously not vaginal for men

Post menopausal and did the sailing through thing (well, bad tempered but as DB said, no change there) but I have a mate who is approaching peri and stressing about it because of all the stuff in the media. I have told her exactly this and to do her own research, talk to her doctor and keep a beady eye out for celebs trying to sell her solutions and remedies. Luckily she's nearly as cynical as me 😏

From The Big Bang Theory where Bernadette works for big Pharma:
Leonard: You don't go into science for the money.
Bernadette: Speak for yourself. Last month my company both invented and cured restless eye syndrome. Ka-ching, ya blinky chumps!

I'm 52, and no idea if I'm menopausal or not because touch wood, I've not really noticed anything much. A colleague said she didn't notice it at all. Another colleague was horrendous, and in the end was let go because she was too scary to approach - she admitted that her DH had moved out at one point, but her symptoms were very extreme. I should have taken note when her reference from her last job said she'd been "let go"....

I blame the celebrities that saw £££££s from highlighting it. They start off writing pregnancy/baby manuals because no one was ever pregnant before them, and boom now they're all hitting the menopause they're off again Hmm

The nylon menopause nightwear that was promoted last year made me annoyed. Especially when I read the explanation.

“Nylon dry fit fabric keeps runners cool, so we’ve used the same stuff for pyjamas and labelled them for menopause.”

Dry fit stuff works because you are running out of doors and the sweat can evaporate in the fresh air. Not so easy under a duvet, you muppets.
