What age for make up?

What age do you a consider a "normal" age to start experimenting and being interested in make up? What would you allow when: lip gloss, eyeshadow etc etc?

For reference I still wasn't allowed to wear make up or go out anywhere by myself at 18 so I have no reference as what is normal! Thanks.

I was experimenting properly by about 9/10 and wearing very light make up from 11 when I went to secondary school. I'm nearly 40 and pretty much wear the same make up now!

13 year old wears lip gloss, mascara, blush for school. Sometimes highlight. She goes to an all girls state school and they really just pick their battles with makeup I think.
Outside of school I largely let her do what she wants with makeup as it's her face, and she enjoys getting creative

DD likes playing around with make up, age 5 I think she was. Don’t let her wear it out though - perhaps some lip gloss /eye shadow for a party? 🤷🏼‍♀️ won’t last five minutes anyway!

Oh but when she first got a little bit interested in putting makeup on for parties she was 8, when her birthday list became entirely makeup and skincare products, she was 12.
Shes had her makeup done professionally a couple of times for parties and she loves that

Oh. Wow. 5, 8? Absolutely no interest here, but maybe that's because she's never seen me wear any?

DD is 12, started wearing it last year when she started secondary. She wears mascara and blusher to school, and at weekends might also add highlighter, eyeshadow and eyeliner.

I think it's a bit young tbh but I'm picking my battles! She's autistic and I'm not going to stop her doing things that help her feel that she fits in with the other girls. As long as she doesn't become obsessed with her appearance at the expense of school work then I don't think it does any harm.
