When did your DC reach peak teenager and how long did it last?

DS is 14, not a bad lad by any stretch of the imagination but we went out, just for a few hours today and it was thoroughly depressing. He was either complaining, huffing, taking the piss or trying to get a rise (eg.talking about getting a face tattoo).

It was hard work, reminded me of the toddler days but in an entirely different way. I miss him.

This is normal right? I'm worried he's going to be a complete arsehole of an adult. How long does this last?!

Following as I have two who's ages when added together make 14 and appear to do all the above in turns 😑

Basically one is almost out of toddlerdom and the second is about to hit puberty.

My 13yo DS is peak Kevin the teenager atm my 16 year old DS is by comparison a delight. He does still shed belongings like confetti but he's not nearly as grumpy

I had 4 teens (at the same time.. !) and while 3 were only averagely stroppy, no 2 was VILE... I mean really really awful... stole, lied, lied more, punched holes in doors, smoked weed...
He started early at 12, peaked at 15 and started becoming human again somewhere between 16-17. By 18 he was recognisable as the boy we had before...and he is a lovely, hardworking, kind, happily married man now!!

If you'd asked me how I thought he'd turn out when he was 15, I'd have probably sobbed and said 'prison'!!!

I have 15 and 14 year old boys. The 14 year old is surly, argumentative, defiant and constantly picks on and argues with my 5 year old. The 15 year old has never been as bad but the last couple of years was a bit of a misery whereas now he seems much more cheerful so I'm hoping 15 is when things start to turn around!

DS1 was unbelievably stroppy up until 15 - and then girlfriends appeared on the scene that were an outlet for teenage hormones a delightfully moderating influence. There have been ups and downs since then but now at 25 he’s much more easy going and great company.

DS2 - now 18 and has never really hit difficult. Every day I thank god that I had the awkward one first otherwise it would have been a right shock to the system.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the solidarity and reassurance that he'll come out the other side of it ok!

Biology is incredible really, I know this is all part of flying the nest. Just having a wobble that my lovely boy has vanished!
