Where can I go between 8pm-10pm tonight?

Need to be out of the house. No friends are free. Totally skint so cinema not an option and all shops seen to be shut so can't potter around them.

Happy to just go for a walk but don't really want to be out alone after dark.

Any ideas please?

Good grief, just go upstairs, put headphones on and read a book. No need to go wandering the streets at night just to try and avoid a football match

Exactly! OP you're mad - I get the tension but wandering around for no purpose for 2 hours is nuts.

Also - based on my experience of being a fan in similar situations - will you really be able to avoid the match? Or checking on the result? Just watch it & duck out of the room if it gets too much!

SunnySaturdayMorning · 01/05/2023 19:18

A McDonalds. Bound to be open, brightly lit, cheap.

Do you have a coffee drive through near you or at the nearest services?

I'd happily go get a big Tim Hortons or Starbucks coffee and sit and drink it in the car with a book and some music.

I’d do the same as this.

Exactly that

Floralnomad · 01/05/2023 19:21

Just go and have a bath with some music on . I’ve no idea what is going on with Everton but I thought that the whole point of being a supporter is supporting in good times and bad - that’s how I look at it with my cricket team ( which is usually bad ) .

pizzaHeart · 01/05/2023 19:40

You can go to a cinema and sit at the entrance lounge. I often wait for DD there.

AreYouShittingMe · 01/05/2023 19:45

No suggestions OP, but some of the responses here are definitely from PP who don't (seriously) follow football 🤣
I hope you've found something to do. I would have to do something that involves moving during a key match!

KenAdams · 01/05/2023 19:51

Make yourself a hot chocolate, drive towards your nearest airport and do some plane spotting?

Or in the car but with a free audio book.

Uni library if you're a student.

siriusblackcat · 01/05/2023 19:51

I hope you find something to do OP, I totally get it.
I looked a right lunatic the other week when my team had a last minute penalty to level the match and I was so nervous I had to go and pace round the front garden 😂

ShandaLear · 01/05/2023 19:56

Get a flask of coffee and drive to the beach. The weather has been good so there’ll be people about lateish. Or park in a busyish town car park and read or listen to a podcast or some music. Or if you live near a pretty town they’re nice to walk in during the evening.

imnotsadyouresad · 01/05/2023 19:58

McDonalds. A coffee is about a quid, but TBH, as long as you are quiet and well-behaved, the staff are unlikely to throw you out even if you don't buy anything.

LadyWentworth · 01/05/2023 20:00

I live with Evertonians - I feel your pain! But I’m having a bath with music and a book. No phone! I’ll come down when it’s all done

EarringsandLipstick · 01/05/2023 20:10

I don't follow football. But I follow rugby (province and national) & GAA / hurling.

I've absolutely had those moments where I can't watch. I couldn't avoid the whole game though! I'd leave the room at key moments or watch through my fingers!

AgnesX · 01/05/2023 20:12

Any sit in McDonald's if you can afford a tea or coffee?

CheeseLouisePlease · 01/05/2023 20:18

McDonald’s is the best, even if you sit in your car with a drink it means you have access to a toilet!

I think most people who seriously follow Everton will be looking to watch Everton.

AreYouShittingMe · 01/05/2023 20:37

@Obviouspretzel I've watched many an important match behind my fingers and have had to leave the room on occasion (FA cup final 2014 being one particular example). It's how some people cope with watching important matches 🤷‍♀️

midnightblue12 · 01/05/2023 20:38

Go for a wander around the supermarkets/bnms/home bargains!

Summerslimtime · 01/05/2023 20:42

Not on a bank holiday!

We may well support the same team. DH threatened to turn that cup final off if I didn't calm down. Genuinely thought I was going to have a heart attack in the first bit of the game 😂

MadCatLady27 · 01/05/2023 21:10

Could you find a really really good book that's so gripping you can't look up from the pages, and leave your phone in another room/with another family member with strict instructions not to give it to you until after the game? Maybe take a nice bath with your book (less easy to just get up to check your phone!)

I'm a Manchester United fan - I almost always watch our games, although it's easy to turn the TV off and not want to look at the score when you're 3-0 down to Liverpool! (Turns out I was right to turn off as it only got worse!)

MadCatLady27 · 01/05/2023 21:15

Ps - my mum is exactly the same as you - since she used to go to matches, she can no longer watch it on the TV! She's a Liverpool fan and can't stand having it on live

AbbyGal · 01/05/2023 22:21

Well I survived (did almost 9,000 steps around the park until it got dark and then cleaned the fridge 😂)
I don't know if it's age or my general anxiety being heightened with all the crap going on in the world atm but just don't enjoy watching the games that matter if we're not actually at the match.
I went to my first match 51 years ago aged 7 so, as hard as it is for non-fans to understand, it is a huge part of my life and, yes it does matter.
Have a good night everyone.

@siriusblackcat Only if the first 9 minutes were the best of the match for you 🤣

The first 9 minutes were glorious! The rest, not so much.
