I'm a childminder, what would you like to know?

I've my job, it fits my personality and lifestyle perfectly and I'm very good at it. You have to be quite business minded though so you don't get taken advantage of.

It takes over your home and your family need to be on board.

I love my job that should say!

I was a cm for 12 years, the good side was: not needing to arrange childcare for my kids, they always had other children to play with, and I made some lovely friends in our local childminding group.

Bad side: not making much money until my own kids were over the ages where they counted towards my ratios, Ofsted, not being able to do things in the school holidays with my own kids as the mindies' needs had to come first, low status, Ofsted, endless pointless paperwork you have to complete whilst keeping toddlers safe or unpaid when they're not there, finding it hard to get back into non childcare jobs once I was ready (employers seemed to assume working with children would have turned my brain to mush)

And did I mention Ofsted?

Best of luck OP!

Thanks @KateyCuckoo my husband is on board and I have 2 girls both who will be turning 2 and 5 next month, I'm wouldn't do it for the money, but I obviously would need to make enough, I presume i can make some kind of wage from childminding?

Why don't you want to work for rhe money? It's OK to say you'd like to earn a living from your chosen job. Making profit to support your family shouldn't be a dirty word.

I don't make heaps of money but certainly enough. You'll have to keep a record of your income and expenses, submit a tax return and be in charge of saving money for your tax/NI bill.

@KateyCuckoo I want to do something I love, is what I meant rather than do it just for money! I have never been self employed before, so would need to do more research on it, I know basics as my dad is self employed.

Thank you for your response!
