Runners stomach? Or NHS111?

Not sure if I should ring NHS 111- my daughter (9) ran about 1 mile on Saturday and have complained of pain around the belly button from Sat night- she says today is better than yesterday however still complaining. I’ve tried hot compress, applied balm, well hydration and gave her paracetamol.
no fever, bowel functions fine. When I googled it came up ‘runners stomach’ and the symptoms match. Anyone had/know if this? Not sure if I should ring nhs 111 or not.

I honestly don't know why people delay ringing 111. It's not like you're going to A&E.

111 is a 'non emergency number for medical advice'. If you would like some medical advice, ring them. :)

Because it still costs the NHS money and stops someone else getting help quicker. Something like this really doesn't need 111 unless it gets worse or symptoms change. The abuse of the NHS is crippling it (as well as chronic underfunding).

@longcurtains if you ring nhs 111 with stomach pain all they say is take paracetamol and wait and see or if symptoms change urgent care/ not many ooh gp appointments here- we get routed to the urgent care centre- which I can go to if the symptoms change without having to ring 111

How unusual is it for your daughter to run a mile? That's only 1.5k so less than a child would run in many after school sports clubs and probably even a sports class at school (especially if they have to run around the field a couple of times as a warm up). Unless she is very unfit, I doubt that the two are connected.

Runners stomach is normally getting diarrhoea. Maybe she’s pulled a muscle is she not used to running? Usually though it would be a leg muscle or a stitch at the time of running but it would be gone by now. As she’s getting better I wouldn’t ring 111 unless she was in a lot of pain sounds like she’s not.

Doesn't sound like a big deal.

Don't parents just give paracetamol and distraction anymore?

I get runners belly badly which is why I don't run anymore, I get the shits for the evening/next day.

My ds 2 had this 2 years ago. Mild discomfort round his umbilical region. Otherwise felt well. It was just persistent and lasted all day. At one point he had a little rebound tenderness (hurts when you release the pressure) which can be a red flag for appendicitis.
Ended up ringing 111 and going to GP. Admitted to paeds and although surgeon was sceptical initially, turned out to be very definitely appendicitis after an US scan.
