I do a lot of family history research, and I've just found that my granddad's youngest brother has passed away earlier this year. It was listed on a council website with a list of inquests, very distinctive name so it is definitely him. They hadn't been in touch for years - no real animosity, it was the sad result of them being in different childrens homes when they were younger, the brother was adopted and they very much led different lives, though came into contact a few times over the years.
I'm going to tell my Granddad about this, but was just wondering about whether they would be able to tell me anything about his death if I emailed the coroner's service regarding this? The brother wasn't married so I believe my Granddad is probably his next-of-kin unless he had a partner in the last few years we weren't aware of. Also is the funeral likely to have happened (the death was almost three months ago) even though the inquest hasn't taken place? Would they have details about where the funeral was held?
Thanks to anyone who can help me, I know it's an unusual question. The inquest is just marked as 'opening' recently so I think it is ongoing.
