If you have kids who are close in age can you tell them apart using only their hands - your eyes closed?

We tested this just for fun. My kids were amazed I could tell the difference

I do t think I have a special skill or anything. Just a fun game

Ooh great idea for a fun game! Yes I definitely can too.

ipswichwitch · 30/04/2023 19:27

Yes. One has really hot hands and the other cold. Plus, one likes to pick at the edge of my thumb if he’s holding my hand (for some irritating reason!) so I’ll know straight away it’s him.

Lupyto · 30/04/2023 19:28

well done, I quite liked the challenge! We were bored waiting for a train and phone run out battery so invented new games to play !

Ooooo. Good game. I'm going to try when DS2 finishes what ever he's doing so I can try.

KateyCuckoo · 30/04/2023 19:43

I can tell which of my children sneezes or coughs or even clears their throat.

Choccyoclocky · 30/04/2023 19:44

Yes I could because DS doesn't bite his nails and DD does! There is 17m between them but they're the same height and weight.

rainraingoawaay · 30/04/2023 19:45

I'm only 14 months older than my sister and despite me being a foot taller and her having a shaved head my mum still struggles to tell us apart. Just by our hands?! No chance 😂

MmaRra · 30/04/2023 19:50

Yes, even the multiples born only minutes apart. I was able to identify them all eyes and even hands free from birth just by cry, cough, sneeze and so on. Useful when you are too exhausted to open your eyes!

Lupyto · 30/04/2023 19:55

Impressive mmarra .

Haha DH and I have done this before. 2 girls, 18 months apart, and yes I can tell them apart by their hands.

IglesiasPiggl · 30/04/2023 19:59

Yes, but mainly because older DS is very slim, with long slim fingers to match!

MmaRra · 30/04/2023 20:05

Having said that, I've got to own up and admit that I struggled to recognise one DC walking towards me across the car park after a term at uni! Different hair, different clothes, different walk even. It was as if my PFB had been swapped. It was only when they stood in front of me and said incredulously 'Mum?!' that I realised I was meant to take this one home!

Fiftyisthenewsixty · 30/04/2023 21:32

Yes. They are twins but their hands are very different.

MargaretThursday · 30/04/2023 21:43

DD2 only has one hand, so that would be quite obvious!

However even if you said just to give one hand, they're very different.

LikeEmeraldeyes · 30/04/2023 21:46

I can tell them apart by touch. The one thing I can't tell is if they cry. They both cry in the same pitch and tone. I never have been able to tell which child it is when they cry! 12 months apart

AnnaKorine · 30/04/2023 21:47

They’re different sexes so I reckon I could figure it out 😉

DeathMetalMum · 30/04/2023 21:48

Yes dd1 always has cold hands like me, hers are often colder. Dd2's are always warm and sometimes a little clammy.

AndAllOurYesterdays · 30/04/2023 21:50

Wide awake - probably. But not half asleep. Many a time one has snuggled in next to me after a bad dream or something and it's only when we wake up the next morning I realise I'd assumed it was the other child.

Littleoxforddictionary · 30/04/2023 21:51

Yes, twins and one 16 months older. Could always tell whose hands were whose and always know which one it is coming down the stairs just by the energy.

scrivette · 30/04/2023 21:55

I will try tomorrow.

I can't tell my youngest two apart in the middle of the night, I have to feel their head as one has straight hair and one has curly and the texture is completely different.
