Days out ideas please - an hour from Oxford

We’ve not long lived in Oxford and want some recommendation of places to visit. We have done all the attractions in Oxford itself.

Sadly the nearest coast seems to be Bournemouth at almost 2 hours away, but I do have Bletchley Park and the Black Country Living Museum on my list.

I have a teen boy, but he’s quite happy to walk around anywhere (lucky!).

Any additional ideas gratefully received.

The Hellfire Caves in Stokenchurch are a quirky day out, and you can combine with West Wycombe Park if you like a National Trust.

Bourton on the Water for Birdland, little shops, Brum. Heaving in the summer. Bring Crocs in hot weather and you can paddle in the stream.

Didcot Railway Centre if you’re into trains.

Depending on your side of Oxford this might be more than one hour, but Stratford-upon-Avon.

The Light Entertainment complex in Banbury is pretty impressive. It has a climbing wall, arcade, bowling alley, indoor golf (a fancy in the dark with lights version) plus places to eat etc and a cinema.

I love Bekenscot in Beaconsfield - a massive model village. It has a slight Enid Blyton link if you are a fan.

By the way....it will probably take as long to get to Black Country Museum as it would to go down to Bournemouth. As a child Bournemouth was our 'go to' seaside place (driving from Banbury). Don't cross it off the list.

Cotswold Wildlife Park at Burford - really great with loads of generous animal enclosures, rhinos outside the Manor House and a wolf wood.

There's the Chiltern Open Air Musuem too - near Aylesbury (I think).

Cotswold wildlife park is excellent and World of Crocs , if you’ve not been is definitely worth an afternoon .

Some great suggestions all. I plan to make a list so we have ideas for those odd days we can escape somewhere

Crocodiles of the World near Brize Norton is a fabulous day out. You can buy crocodile feeding experience tickets, if your ds isn't squeamish. If Black Country Living Museum is on your list already I would definitely go there. Wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to queue for the famous chippy. From the BCLM you can visit the canal museum and take a canal ride through the tunnels. If your ds is tall enough he can have a go at "legging".
