Paying in cash

Dd has a small amount of cash she wants to spend on Vinted around £40. It's her money box so all small coins.
Can you still go and pay in at the bank? Do you still need the bags to portion the coins out?

She has an account. I haven't physically anything in for about 20 years!

Of course you can. If you have a bank card you can also pay into the post office and use your card. The money will be in your account immediately.

Yes you can and some banks have coin machines where you tip the coins in (like the coin start ones at the super market).

I haven't seen many of these but there one in Meadowhall.

Or the post office, I'm sure they will help with counting it out. Is it all coins?
Unless it's £1 or 2 coins it's a lot of coins so bag it up and then on a piece of paper write down what you are paying in eg:

£1 x 12= 12
50p x 9 = 4.5
Etc

I think the money bags would be a help!

My tips from my car boot sale cash!

Most banks (depending on how much coin there is) will want it to be bagged at the right denominations (£1 of 1ps for example) but it’s 100% cashier’s discretion so you’ll just have to ask and see. As a prev poster said a lot of banks now have machines for coin so just depends where you go.

I would just transfer it to her and keep the cash. I don't live near a bank though so it would be an absolute faff to have to go specifically for this.

I used to work as a cashier and I have never heard of a bank or post office counter voluntarily accepting loose coins or coins not in full bags I.e 20x £1.

I think you'd have to go and fetch some coin bags from the bank and sort them yourself or empty them into a coin machine at a supermarket.

Post office can take deposits to almost any other bank, and don't need bags etc.

Kazzyhoward · 29/04/2023 08:39

Simplest way to get rid of the cash would be to put it in a self service till at the supermarket when you buy your own shopping. Then you can either pay vinted directly yourself or transfer the money into her bank account for her to do it.

cherrypied · 29/04/2023 08:40

You could transfer the money then spend it at the supermarket paying it in to the coin basket on the self serve tills

Yep I was going to suggest this. Just take the coins yourself for other things and transfer her the £40. Saves bagging it all up and counting it out.

Cross post!

I don't want £40 in 2ps! Thanks everyone
