Talk to me about period pants!

I really want to get some but the majority are just stupidly expensive! Who on earth can afford £20-£30+ for just ONE pair of knickers?!

I need them to be extra absorbent with EXTRA coverage, preferably with the absorbency layer going all the way up to the waistbands both front and back. AND plus sized to boot! Does such a holy grail exist, where I won't need to take out a loan just to be able to buy some knickers?!

I bought some last year for DD from Primark. Around £10 for 3, IIRC. She gets on with them well!

Myfuckingredtrousers · 28/04/2023 23:51

My dds have primark ones too but on heavy days they still wear pads.

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 29/04/2023 00:08

Thank you but I'm not going to bother with Primark. I just don't think the quality and coverage would be good enough. Mine are heavy all the way through so I need since that can cope with that.

Yes. cheekywipes.com

"How absorbent are they?
You know your cycle best and we recommend you change your protection in line with your flow. If you go through many tampons or pads per day, then you'll need to change these more frequently. However with the absorbent protection right from the front to rear waistband, you have full coverage, even when sleeping."

CC4712 · 29/04/2023 00:23

How do you know when to change them?

SmoothSeasDoNotMakeGoodSailors · 29/04/2023 00:28

Don't use fabric softener when you wash them. I found that out the hard way.

IloveJudgeJudy · 29/04/2023 00:36

DD uses M&S ones. She swears by them.

Bringmecaffeine · 29/04/2023 00:40

Sign up to cheeky wipes and wait for period pants to come up on their £10 Tuesday offer or look in their end of line range, or I think iirc they do 5 for £49 or something like that.

Im trying to go plastic free periods but started with replacing mat pads post baby with period knicks

MrsCharlesFrere · 29/04/2023 02:00

DD and I have between us tried Modibodi, M&S and Floweret.

Modibodi we're by far the best. Really good coverage but £££

I'd really recommend them but realistically you need at least 6 pairs. You can't tumble dry them so need enough for two days to allow for washing and drying.

Lysianthus · 29/04/2023 02:01

M&S, really good, different absorbencies.

givemecoffeenow · 29/04/2023 03:59

M&S are the best ones I have found. They are a bit pricey though but if you want the good quality ones you generally have to pay more. Otherwise settle for the cheaper but lesser quality primark ones.

It’s kind of like that for most things though really. The good quality things in life usually means you have to part with more money unfortunately.

YukoandHiro · 29/04/2023 04:02

I liked Wuka but they gave me cystitis. I'm v heavy flow and I loved the security but sadly didn't work for my bod.

reluctantbrit · 29/04/2023 06:39

I use Modibodis and have periods where I need to change the overnight ones 2-3x a day on my worst.

They do one 24hr wich has coverage back and front and it does work but I feel quite stiff with them. I use them for days I know I am out of the house.

They are absolutely worth their price.

DD uses them for a full school day, from 7am - 4pm with no leaks.

M&S, unless they changed, I find their heavy day ones not really that absorbent but I also know that what heavy means is very different for each person.

allofthelove · 29/04/2023 06:55

modi bodi are £££ but are worth it , i used to use them pre coil and whereas i was having to change regular because i was so heavy , i tried these are i didn't have to change my clothes at all .

now my daughter uses them . she has the boxer shorts, and loves them, wears them all day at school and doesn't leak. the night time ones have padding up the back .

i have a discount code , refer a friend if you want it, send me a PM.

allofthelove · 29/04/2023 06:57

Also they have a sale on at the moment . worth having a look

WhatNoRaisins · 29/04/2023 07:00

I'd just buy them one at a time to see if they suit you and then gradually reduce the amount of disposables you need.

I find them so much more comfortable especially in hot weather

Snowdropsarelovely · 29/04/2023 07:10

I have tried various different brands for my very heavy flow. Tried love Luna, Marks & Spencer's, Primark, cheeky wipes, and Modibodi.
I find modibodi to be far superior- expensive but 3 years on still absorbent. The overnight ones would probably be best for what you are describing you want, they have a lot of the absorbent fabric.

Christmascracker0 · 29/04/2023 07:12

i have always wondered what happens to clots with period pants? Do they just.. sit there? 😬

Smafa · 29/04/2023 07:15

I swear by my Thinx. They are expensive but it depends on your needs. & some places do offers, I got mine from ASOS for around £20, so it's definitely a good idea to shop around.
^
I have medium to (sometimes)heavy flow & while the pants were on offer I bought 3 pairs. 1 pair gets me through the day.^ Remove, put in cold water to soak, shower & put on fresh ones. Give soaked ones a quick rub, put in cold/low temp wash. Repeat as needed.

Totally worth it, imho

LeroyJenkinssss · 29/04/2023 07:17

I use modibodi and they are fab - I have very heavy periods and use tampons as well but found them comfortable, contain everything and good coverage. Expensive but worth it.

Not sure why but I always thought period pants were for accidental leaks, not for use on their own. I use mine with a mooncup. I couldn't use them on their own it'd feel very uncomfortable.

I tried wuka (sizes are realistic) and got the high waisted heavy flow ones - omg - life changing. They are absorbent, comfortable, hassle free. I bought one for heavy flow and one for super heavy nights - they work like a charm. As someone else said - you need a couple as they take time to dry.
saves the faff of carrying stuff and all that sticking not sticking, shifting sanpros that feel like you need to be on alert - all the time.
Worth the investment - specially with the insane flow that comes with turning 40 something...

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 29/04/2023 08:31

I've just ordered some Cheeky ones, they currently have 25% off so I saved quite a bit! Thanks for the recommendation @Bringmecaffeine!
