Slipped Disc - Help!

Pickle2023 · 28/04/2023 19:42

My husband has seen a chiropractor who confirms he has a slipped disk. He is in so much pain and can hardly walk, getting in and out of bed is excruciating.
He is seeing the chiropractor for more sessions to try and help the constant pain, and will also be seeing a physio for acupuncture as recommended by the chiropractor.
The chiropractor said there is nothing that can be done to make it better, only time and rest will do that.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what we can do to alleviate the pain and fix the slipped disc?
We have bupa so I am going to call them tomorrow to see if they can help

Tell him to keep ontop of the anti inflammatories, they build up in your system so if you stop taking them you’ll feel ok for a day but the next day he’ll be back to square one and it’ll take a day or two of taking them to get back to the same level of pain reduction. Don’t let him be fooled by thinking it feels better so he can stop. Hopefully it’s not a bad prolapse and will heal on its own, they mostly do, I’ve had multiple slipped discs over the years, some worse than others but most have resolved themselves with antiinflamatories, pain relief and a bit of time and tlc.
long term see if he can find a really good physio trained Pilates instructor for some one to one sessions to build his core up and support his lower back which will help reduce the chances ans severity of relapses in the future… just make sure it’s one to one with a really well trained specialist not a gym Pilates class which is never meant for treating injuries and can be harmful

Thank you, we are making sure he is regularly taking the anti inflammatory and painkiller meds, he's able to walk about a lot more now so keeping active very slowly. I'm calling consultants tomorrow as they are not answering today as it's bank holiday

We now have an appointment on 16th May, sadly couldn't get one any earlier with a orthopaedic consultant which includes an MRI if needed. He is much more mobile now with the help of the medication.

Well, with a bit of luck, it may have settled a bit, by the time he gets there.
