How different are your children?

We have a 6 year old & a just turned 1 year old.

The one year old doesn't seem as advanced as our 6 year old which is causing me to worry about his development. I know it's wrong to compare but I just can't seem to help myself.

My 6 year old was walking by now but my younger one is not.

Also, my younger child cannot but items in a basket/box. He just doesn't seem as switch on as our first born.

Does anyone have any similar stories or advice please?

Mine are 10 & 12 but have been unbelievably different from birth, literally not remotely the same!

One was much slower to develop physically, one was walking at 10 months. Now one is very academic but still needs their laces tied, and one is not so academic, but exceptionally 'capable' - could basically move out and live by themselves if needed!

Both absolutely lovely children, one much easier than the other, but not at all the same!

Polar opposites in personality (think a guardian reader v a daily mail reader). Although their development was the same.

DS (10) and DD (8) are chalk and cheese in many aspects of their characters, although both very bright. e.g. DS totally muddle-headed, disorganised, socially confident with peers but shy with adults, whereas DD switched on, organised, very shy with peers but confident with adults whether she knows them or not. Also different learning styles - DS learns by asking questions and 'doing', DD learns by watching and listening.

DD was several months later walking than DS. I don't think this is unusual for the younger child - they often aren't 'encouraged' to walk as much (I was certainly in no hurry for DD to start walking), plus they have another little person to bring them things, so there is less incentive!
