Oh Crap potty training at bank holiday! Successful stories?

My DS is 2.9 and we are about to start potty training. I've been waiting till the slightly warmer weather but I am quite apprehensive about the process (though not showing my son that I am).

I've read "Oh Crap" method book and we are thinking of dedicating the coronation bank holiday weekend to doing it (sorry King Charles!)

Has anyone successfully done this method with a boy around this age? Just looking for reassurance and tips! He's extremely strong minded...

I'm particularly nervous about taking my son out without nappies, going on day trips etc.

How long does it usually take before they can use a public toilet (with parental help)?

First day was hellish but I'd really recommend it, it was like a reset button for my wee one. It did take a few more weeks to use a public loo, and he still has the odd accident here and there months later. Make sure you have takeaways/meals made. I was a burst couch doing it, but we'd tried normal potty training twice before and he was having none of it.

Mine at that age got it pretty much on day 1 with Oh Crap. The problem was us - we didn't trust that she had it and kept asking her too often if she needed a wee, and trying to force her to 'check' if she needed to go when she didn't want to. In retrospect, once we were a couple of weeks in, we should have just shut up and let her tell us when she needed to go, and accepted that we may have a few accidents. This phase (the 'shut up and let them get on with it' phase) is described in Oh Crap, but we didn't start it soon enough.

No idea about the oh crap method.
Never bothered with a potty unless they r the size of a 1 year old.

Just straight on the toilet, he already told me when he was going so it was easy, we were able to leave the house on day 2, but he only drank water, those that drink squash are harder as squash is a diuretic so they have less control.

He just wore jogging bottoms and pants and was able to pull them up and down without help.

Great to know! I'm hoping the fact that he is edging on being slightly older will help him to get it. His language is really good so it's just whether he finds it too scary to tell us, not whether he can.

Be patient. First time around I'd jacked it in after 3 days. Tried again 2 months later and it clicked after 4 days. You will want to tear your hair out for the first 2-3 days. Good luck!

Recommend the oh crap method to all my friends with kids. DS got it day 1 he was just shy of 2 we did stay in for the first few days it coincided with DS having Scarlett fever 🙄and worked like a charm. He was reliably daytime dry in 4 days. Nighttime's took longer but he was bout of nappies at night by about 2 1/2. Good luck!
