Surprise but what could it be?

Dm has decided in her infinite wisdom I am in need of a surprise

Her last surprise was to refloor my kitchen and bathroom

While I did agree to the flooring being replaced I was told it would be a surprise with the type and I trusted her she is usually very good with decoration ect

I came home to laminate (I have nothing against laminate) that looks like wood but it's blue, dark blue.

I have a 200+ yo cottage it matches absolutely nothing but I smiled and said thank you and internally curse her every time I mop it

Tomorrow she has arranged another surprise but won't tell me what it is only that I have to be out of the house for 2 preferably 3 hours so I can't be home between 2.30 though preferably 1.30 and 4.30 and whoever is doing it is a she.

I have found out it will be done in my dining room only because she asked me how far our puppy cam covered and this room is a black spot.

It can't be more flooring as there is a marine tank in there and can't be moved.
We are in the process of finishing the garden but it can't be to do with that as it would be outside not inside.
I have only just finished painting so can't be that.

I'm driving myself mad trying to think what it could be!
Any guesses are welcome

Your mum sounds amazing! It costs a fecking bomb to returf a garden (currently trying to get my extremely small one returfed and having palpitations at the quotes I’m being given!

Ooh that chinoiserie kitchen is lush. So many people go for new kitchens that look like the nurse’s station where she gives me jabs.

A mural!

Thought the same

She turfed my garden! The dining room was a red herring
I'll be honest it's not great but it's alot better than it was as we had just had a conservatory built and the garden was collateral damage as we had the drains done at the same timeand all the rubble was piled high for several months

Oh I somehow missed your update!

It sounds like a really practical this time!

Jeannie88 · 29/04/2023 18:20

Must be some sort of painting or new dining table set? Really lovely of her. X

LadyLexy · 29/04/2023 18:23

My dad said to me in January he had a surprise for me & proceeded to throw me a bundle of £20’s which equaled to £1000 I was definitely surprised, it’s nice to get surprises from our parents 😊👍🏻

Redebs · 29/04/2023 18:27

That's perfect! Hope you get lots of rain now to help it settle.

That floor is lovely by the way

BlondieLady · 29/04/2023 18:28

Painting a mural on your wall no doubt!

mamabear715 · 29/04/2023 18:41

How lovely!

LoisLane66 · 29/04/2023 18:44

Curtains? Fitted blinds?

Her mum sounds lovely. It's a nice thoughtful thing to do for someone who doesn't have the time/skillset to do

Sounds like her mum didn't have the time or skillset to do it either 😂

LoisLane66 · 29/04/2023 18:48

New light fittings on walls and ceiling.

MrsWeasley · 29/04/2023 18:59

She’s decided you need a ‘feature wall’ or she’s having your carpets cleaned or she’s order some new furniture and it’ll take that long to build it.
Good Luck!

oh just another thought would she be preparing a meal or maybe decorating for a surprise party (birthday coming up or baby shower, engagement?)

MrsWeasley · 29/04/2023 19:01

My last post was my sensible suggestions. Now for the fun bit
magazine style photo shoot
setting up a speed dating night
having her own friends around for a party and your not invited
a theme afternoon gathering

Trishthedish · 29/04/2023 19:06

Oh lord. It would drive me wild not knowing what I was going to come home to.

Oh I know. That chinoiserie is gorgeous. Makes a change from grey.

Maireas · 29/04/2023 19:08

Turfing your garden is brilliant! What a great Mum 😊

pfftt · 29/04/2023 19:11

I understand why you leave the decorating to your DM. That floor ain't dark blue

RockSocks · 29/04/2023 19:13

Garden still needs a whole lot of work but yeay we will have some usable outside space soon

I'm very glad it wasn't flooring 😁

Surprise but what could it be?

BanditsOnTheHorizon · 29/04/2023 19:18

I wish someone would come and sort out garden Grin looks lovely op

ITryHarder · 29/04/2023 19:22

The biggest surprise is that someone would allow anyone, even mom, to make big, semi-permanent changes to their home without their input. You are the one who has to live with whatever she chooses, and just because she generally has good taste doesn't mean you will always love the same thing - example, the bathroom floor. Surprising you with colorful bathroom towels is one thing, easily remedied. A bathroom floor you don't care for is another. You need to have a talk with your loving, overly-generous mom.... unless there is a little bit of taking advantage of her on your part. That being the case, then live with anything and everything she does whether you like it or not.

I love your mum, OP! That's a lovely surprise ☺️
