Have you increased your kids’ pocket money in line with inflation?

My DS was suggesting this last night. I told him to go on strike for an inflationary pay rise, but I’m not sure how I’d tell the difference tbh. But actually, thinking about it, I wonder if it might be fair to increase it. The stuff he likes to buy (video games, junk food, cinema tickets) has gone up a fair bit in price so he can buy less stuff.

Yep was £40 a month, recently been giving £50. Young teen daughter.

No but if they asked and I could afford it I would consider it.

Natsku · 27/04/2023 13:00

No, I can't afford to raise it, struggling to afford to even give it as it is. If I could afford it maybe but DD doesn't really spend her pocket money, she saves it, so its not been an issue for her anyway.

When is his annual review?

PolkaDotMankini · 27/04/2023 13:05

Haha no! If they bought anything other than sweets I'd consider it. They're 13 and 10.

No pocket money rises here, my kids need to feel poorer or the Bank of England will hold them responsible for inflation across the UK 🙄

Nope. But they never spend it anyway.
I've said it will be reviewed if they start needing/wanting to spend it.
