Urgent advice re Dismantling a small Conservatory

medianewbie · 26/04/2023 15:59

I've been offered, & paid for, a small 2nd hand conservatory. The person who was going to dismantle it now can't. I can't let the seller down so I'm going to have to do ot myself. It's 3m by 3m. Pic attached. Can anyone advise HOW? Also how long it might take / how small it will break down to? Thanks... (niche Qu so hoping someone sees this today)

Can't you find a handy person to help you? I'm pretty adept at diy but that would defeat me. What are you going to do with it?

It took two people about 7 hours to dismantle my small conservatory yesterday, and it was really faffy to find the connecting clips

Have you googled, there might be a video on YouTube showing how? With something like that, I wouldn't be trying to save it to be re-erected, so I wouldn't have a clue what tools to use to dismantle it without breaking anything.

I do think you can take out the double glazed units by prising off the bars that mitre into the corners, but goodness knows how it's done.

Ask on local sm for any handy people to assist, you won't be able to sell it damaged if you get it wrong

medianewbie · 26/04/2023 16:24

Yes, hoping to reuse it at my end as a conservatory.
I'm not paying much, so thought it worth the risk but not sure how to do it.

This is a simplified explanation as it breaks down the order in which to start.

The most difficult part for us was the glazing in the roof as it was so heavy, but we did buy glass sucker things (sort of handles) they really made a difference.

How to pack and transport the glass also requires thought. We also labelled each strut with marker pen so that we knew which bit fitted where.

It is certainly possible but it is not easy.

Good luck.

@fairislecable that's handy, thank you!
The roof is polycarbonate so hopefully less heavy than glass but sucker things might be useful. I'm also not sure how small it breaks down. I've a Volvo estate & wondering if it'll go in there(in stages!) with the seats flat ?

These were what we used but if the roof is polycarbonate you may not need them.

We did buy foam stickers to put on the glass to use as padded separators between the glass sheets. Take Tupperware boxes to put in any screws/clips etc

we hired a van to move ours but you may be able to do several trips with the car.

Thanks @fairislecable - super-helpful x
(if the side plastic panels break down singly I might, if stay as doubles I might need a man with a van?) Did you reassemble yours successfully?

My DH reassembled it - and yes it was very tricky. We laid all the pieces out on the lawn in the order needed so we could be sure we could see what we were needing for each step.

Ours was Golden Oak so I painted it with Zinsser Allcoat to match the house windows.

It saved us a lot of money but it was worth all the effort.
