Do I need to burn my house down?

Just tidying up the bedroom when I noticed something on the floor. It looked like a little pebble. Thought I better get rid of it before DD tries to eat it.

I picked it up and it was soft. I was about to sqeeze it when I realised it was a very engorged tick 🤢 Right next to the bed (luckily DH‘s side 😆). It’s little legs were still wriggling

We do have a cat who sleeps on our bed so I am presuming/ hoping it came from him. I found a tick on him a few weeks ago.

What are the next steps? Apart from burning the house down. Do I need to banish the cat from our room? Is there anything he can take that will stop ticks from biting him? He currently only takes Milbemax against worms.

There are tick and flea spot-on treatments. I got one for my now deceased kitty as I found a tiny tick on him after flea combing him one day. Can't recall the brand but check brands like Frontline, Advantage. I don't like flea treatments but seeing the tick was a bridge too far!

You can get tick spot on's, there's one that comes as part of a flea treatment. We have a small stream/trickle of stagnant water nearby and one of mine gets them a lot, especially at this time of year. We just check him regularly and have a pair of tick tweezers. Get them out when they're small and they won't drop off around the house! They're usually around the head/ears/neck area - I'm guessing it's because he's drinking from that horrible bit of water instead of the nice clean bowl of water that's down for him at home!

I found the spot on treatment not really good enough. I now use a Johnson's tablet. I wrap it up in wafer thin ham and cats do not know they have taken it. I give it to them on the 1st of every month.

Thanks for all the tips! I‘ll pop into the vets later to see what they have.

We live next to fields with long grass so have found a few ticks on our cat over the years. But I have never found one in the house like that. It’s making me feel sick just thinking of how many there could have been and I just didn’t see 😬

And sorry, I probably should have posted this in the pet section!

Seresto collar always worked well for my small dog. You have my sympathy, nothing like finding a juicy tick in your house

So I went to the vets, forgetting that they are closed on Wednesdays! Instead I have ordered an anti flea and tick collar plus a spot on treatment, fast track delivery!

I couldn’t understand how this tick was missed. My cat sits on my lap for snuggles every night and surely I would have felt the tick on him, as I have done before. So I gave him a thorough once over and found FOUR ticks under his collar (just a normal collar). Plus a hole where presumably the monster that was in my bedroom fell off. So that’s where the bastards have been hiding 🤢
